Apr-22-02, 08:40 AM (EDT) "New wooden Howe truss bridge uploaded" have uploaded a couple of 19th century Howe truss bridges. These bridges are 50m long and are wood textured. They are patterned after 19th century wooden truss bridges. The file name is HOWETRUS.ZIPHere are screen shots of the bridges:
They were normally used together like this:
If anyone has any comments or suggestions, let me know.I do have a question about a problem I had with TSM. (I ask it here because I could not get a response from Abacus about this problem.) While working on these bridges, I needed to show some steel rods that are used to keep the bridge together. I was able to place a couple of them on the first bridge and then TSM slowed up considerably and when creating the scenery object it would take a considerable amount of time compared to what I am used to. The rods were .02m radius and 7m long. When I tried to access the object in the simulator I received and error message that the .s file was not found. When I looked in my route shaped folder the file was there. Are there a maximum number of parts I can use in an object in TSM? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.Bill Bagley

I also got '.s file failed to load' messages when I converted the Monster truck madness models, but after compressing the files have been working perfectly. Did you try to compress the .s files(TSM 1.1 should do that automatically)?
You could also save the project with a different name(for backup) and then join all parts together.Enocell Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-27-02, 02:20 PM (EDT) 5. "RE: New wooden Howe truss bridge uploaded" Yes I have TSM set to compress the .s file. I think I am just getting too many polys for it to work. The object would work fine until I got to to over 2500 polys. I am going to leave the details out that are cousing the problem. Thanks

Apr-22-02, 04:33 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: New wooden Howe truss bridge uploaded" Haven't ran into that problem yet with up to 2000+ poly count on the more complex bridges.
It's possible your bridge has become too complex with the attempt to add the 3 to 5 iron tie rods per truss. You may want to try using a trans texture to represent those rods. While the individual ties are impressive, they will also run up the poly count.
This is a G scale model of one such bridge at a modeler friend of mine.
I believe such a bridge would be soaked in creosite to protect it from rot and would be very dark in colorKeep working on it and let us know if there is a poly limit.SRV Ron Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-27-02, 02:09 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: New wooden Howe truss bridge uploaded" I have made some changes to my bridges by making two different styles of each bridge. The origianl bridges have the timber decking and the new style has a solid floor. I also used a darker wood texture for the bridge.I have posted info on the update in a new threadThanks
