It appears from one of your photos that the rear is not just rectangular as I have it. Do you have anymore photos with a rear side shot?Brad

Apr-21-02, 10:17 PM (EDT) 1. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." Wow! That's looking really great. If you are trying to judge by the straight on side shot, there is a small white building behind (to the right when looking from the rear) that confuses the image. The straight on from the rear shows it to be a simple extension of the rest the building, with the pillars sticking out at the front of the main part and the rear of the main part. You are capturing the building amazingly well. I can hardly wait.Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Is that building something that should be included? It seems to have the same paint scheme. If it does and you don't have a picture can you tell me if it has windows and where they are and where the door is. And another question, do you know what the gas pumps might have looked like? Would something similar to what I did for the Texaco station be OK or would the round pumps be more appropiate? Hate to bug you but I would like to get it as close as possible.Brad

Apr-22-02, 04:49 PM (EDT) 3. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." The other building had nothing to do with the gas station, the lens made it look closer than in life. In the 30's, they would have been the tall visible pumps with the glass tube. Most likely around WWII or just after they would have changed to the more modern ones, possibly with a glass globe on top, or just the plain rounded contour ones.I'm best at sounds, but can't really think of anything very fitting. Without cars going through, no bell clang to announce their arrival. Air rachet would be OK if I could make it sound off every 5 or ten minutes, but that's pretty hard to do!Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-22-02, 08:10 PM (EDT) 4. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." The sounds would be pretty neat. I think what I will do with the pumps is make them seperate and include the round ones and the more modern like with the Texaco station. I changed the bottom border to the tile same as I had done on the pillars, looks better than just a plain color, made a front door from the side door by making it all glass. I'll post another pic tomorrow I hope. Hell, I might one day get the hang of this. It will be a bit slower from now on tho, I had quit my job 6 months ago but my boss called and decided they needed me back to straighten up the mess my successor had created. Can't spend quite so much time in front of this puter now. lol I am saving the logo for last 'cause that is really gonna tax my skills.Brad

I am getting closer to having to do the logo. Notice the tops of the turrets, I have tried wraping, front and back, or left and right but I still get that funny coloration. Any ideas? I am just taking a small portion of the sidewall texture to apply on the turrets...maybe I have to take a bigger bite. Still have the windows on the opposite side, door at rear and the chimney to do.Brad

Apr-23-02, 03:27 PM (EDT) 6. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." Lookin Good!! Can't wait to add it to my route. My suggestion is to make a version without a logo so those of us who like to "tinker" can add our own. Since I am building a west coast route, certain brands would not be found out there.ATSFDUDE Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-23-02, 08:24 PM (EDT) 7. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." I like that idea about the logo. I have added a concrete slab out front. I can get this uploaded without the logo on the shields around the roof and then work on the logo and update the ace file for those who don't "tinker." Still have to do the pumps.Brad

Apr-24-02, 10:05 AM (EDT) 8. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." I "tinkered" with the other gas station you did, the Texaco station, and instead of the Texaco logo it has Mobil Oil logos. The Flying Horse looks good on it. Thanks for creating them.ATSFDUDE

Apr-25-02, 01:37 AM (EDT) 9. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." Man, that does look great. The horse is better than the star. I am glad you are enjoying the station. I am trying to do some 1940's - 1950's cars but so far nothing that looks to good. I will keep pluggin away. The other gas station should be uploaded Sunday. I just got home from work, 19 hours today, same tomorrow and right thru Saturday.Brad

Here is the final product without logo. When uploaded it will have the round and square pumps as seperate objects so you can use whichever you like. Should upload tonite or tomorrow. I think I need to make the square pumps a bit smaller.Brad

Apr-30-02, 08:32 AM (EDT) 11. "RE: timken's art deco gas station...." Thank You! That really looks great. My son, 22, was not aware of your effort, but has seen the original station. One look, and he went ballistic! Wow, that's the old Deco gas station in Payette Idaho! Although not a train nut, he really likes old buildings and Art Deco. That will look very nice on my route.Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
