Apr-18-02, 00:54 AM (EST) "Deck Girder Bridge Project" LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-02 AT 00:57 AM (EST)LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-02 AT 00:56 AM (EST)Here is the first in a series of bridges of the Deck Girder
type they will be in Straight 60ft then 30 degree angle 60ft and
then a 45 degree angle 60ft designs....I will make some retaining walls to complete the set and possibly some risers in
steel frame to use for high structures....Message Areas - "Deck Girder Bridge Project" – image 1Message Areas - "Deck Girder Bridge Project" – image 2Message Areas - "Deck Girder Bridge Project" – image 3Message Areas - "Deck Girder Bridge Project" – image 4Message Areas - "Deck Girder Bridge Project" – image 5The side wall is 4.5 ft high and looks about right (being I am
using an article from a mag for the model)
The girder width across rails is 14.5 ft to fit the largest cars.
These objects will be untracked because it is fairly easy to fit them into place in the RE with just the key commands and mouse.Look for the first one as DECKGRD1.ZIPEnjoy and comments or suggestions welcome.Rick Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-18-02, 12:42 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" That is the goofyest thing I ever read.....I think they should rethink the problem....anyway no I hadn't even had anything larger than the F7 and a few cars I run for fun on the Decks so I don't know if the Boeing cars or any other cars for that matter will go through these ok...(grin) but they should....LaterRick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I hope the zipped attachment is not too large. It contains a photo of the plate girder and the tga file that I use.SRV Ron Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-20-02, 05:34 PM (EST) 21. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" Ron.......I'd love to apply your rusty weathered textures to Rick's great deck girder......... did you look at his ACE file........ain't much there to work with......what would get the rust treatment and what wouldn't?

Apr-20-02, 07:40 PM (EST) 24. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" Rick has a copy of the rusty texture and a full pic of the Tawas bridge. He is working on using that texture or something similar to it. You will have to ask him on adding rust or better yet, watch what he does with his latest projects.
Check out his Pool Point bridge which is using transparent web girders.
It takes a lot of planning and tweaking to get a single texture ace to do so much work. The advantage is great looking objects that don't tie up a lot of resources in the sim.
Between the two of us, there is going to be a new high quality standard set for realistic looking RR bridges in this sim.
SRVBrdg3.zip is in the works. It will feature a requested 250ft arch truss bridge and a swing span complete with protective wood pilings. (sorry, it won't be animated at this time.)SRV Ron Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-18-02, 02:39 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" I decided not to do the 30 degree version because the 45 degree version seems enough of an offset to get most crossing situations fixed.....Rick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-18-02, 02:02 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" Rick......great work as always. Suggestion: is there a way for you to put a single face underneath the girder cross members to block the view of the ballast so that we can adjust the height to show only the rail and fishplates? Would that produce a more pleasing effect than having the ballast show through on these?

Apr-19-02, 03:44 AM (EST) 9. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" Joe,use my 100meter track (rails only) its what I used when I shot the screen grabs....If you want a single sheet applied to the bottom of the bridge to remove the track ballast then I can do that....let me know. And editing that nasty Tsection.DAT is not black magic though some people seem to think so....LaterRick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-19-02, 10:11 AM (EST) 12. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" Editing the tsec file I think scares most of us for fear we will corrupt all the track/global/world files. Once we try it we might enjoy it.........??? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-19-02, 03:54 PM (EST) 15. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" I figured that the bridges I saw that were double track setups had two bridges layed out side by side....this may not work with my model as it is 14 feet wide.....Also I have turned in most of my objects to David Beach to fit into the new Tsection.DAT file so we'll see how he does on it....LaterRick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-19-02, 05:25 PM (EST) 16. "RE: Deck Girder Bridge Project" We could cheat a little and snuggle two side by side and overlap slightly on the ties....not prototypical but it looks ok.
