This station is 414 polys. I am thinking about putting a hoist in one bay, up about 6 feet, so one could put a car on it. Will increase polys to about 750. Is it worth it or just keep it simple? It will be available for download in a day or two. I think I am getting better at this.....Brad

Apr-17-02, 08:09 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Another "oldies" gas station for Fonz and the gang" I just love these old stations, they really add character to the scenes! Thank You. More detail is almost always a plus, I can live with a few more polys. If you are feeling ambitious, here are a couple pics of a local station that's begging to be modeled. I have pics from all angles including interior, but no 3D program.

Steve, here is what I have so far.....do you by chance have a color pic of the logo? Or can you tell me how it was colored. The rest of the basic shape won't be to bad but the texturing may be out of my league, but I will give it a try. Or do you want it as it is now?Brad

Apr-17-02, 07:41 PM (EST) 16. "RE: Another "oldies" gas station for Fonz and the gang" I haven't been able to find a color scheme for the shield, so I would guess, using the colors remaining in the pics, maybe. I could try doing the texture, if I have a good map of the station to to by. It might take a while, as I'm doing sound for the upcoming D&RGW K-36, and various scenery items right now. What you've done wo far looks great. Apr-18-02, 01:43 PM (EST) 17. "RE: Another "oldies" gas station for Fonz and the gang" I have not been able to find the shield colors either, but after studying the image at different contrasts, I think I can make out "The Goodman Oil Co." in the shield.Ron Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-18-02, 02:12 PM (EST) 18. "RE: Another "oldies" gas station for Fonz and the gang" Yep, that's what it is, a small chain in Idaho and E. Oregon, and artifacts are rare and highly collectible. Unfortunately, none are for sale at any of the major vintage gas station dealers on line! I doubt any one will care if we aren't totaly correct on the shield colors, if some one actually knows we can change the ace file! It's just such a cool Art Deco station it's hard to resist.Stev Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Ok, the hoist is a seperate object, 100 polys. A bit of pain to place but the best way is place it first then the station over it. Fully raised it is 7 feet. The vehicle (by Homebrew) and the attendant (from the UK trainsim site) are NOT included. Should upload them later today.Brad

Apr-17-02, 10:15 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Another "oldies" gas station for Fonz and the gang" I like it, especially the shading of the ground texture around the pumps. I can think of several places on the Columbia Gorge where this would look good.

Apr-17-02, 03:05 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Another "oldies" gas station for Fonz and the gang" I thought of one more "optional" seperate object that would only add two polygons: Garage doors. They could be ommited, placed partially up or closed. I think you could even use an alpha layer so that they were invisible during the day and visible-closed at night.

Apr-17-02, 06:18 PM (EST) 15. "RE: Another "oldies" gas station for Fonz and the gang" That is a good idea stationmaster but I have not even thought about using alphas and transparencies yet. I am not sure how to make night and snow textures yet. Course, 3 months ago when I bought TSM it took me two weeks to make a station sign for my Grand Trunk route. lol Eventually I hope to get there tho. Anyone who has TSM that would like to add anything, I will gladly send you the .dst file.Brad
