Apr-14-02, 08:37 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-02 AT 08:39 PM (EST)They hide them in binary, you have to use ffedit to convert them to English so you can read it. I'm not gonna go into how to do that, it's a long story and I ain't much of an expert on ffedit anyway. The shape file in shapes ends with .s, that's what has to be "decompressed" with ffedit to read it, and doing a search for "ace" after opening the converted .s file in wordpad will reveal the name of all the ace files it uses. I think Washington station uses 3 ace files that start with washington (try a search in a route folder using windows explorer, tools, find, files or folders named "*washington*.*"), but it may also use bits and pieces of other textures. The file you can already read, washingtonstation.sd, is the extended shape data file called for by the washingtonstation.s, and the .sd files don't have the call for the textures, that's in the .s file. Apr-14-02, 10:02 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." This problem can occur when someone creates an object and doesn't use a naming standard for the matching texture files. When you try to place the object with the missing texture, the route editor will complain with an error box which will tell you that it "can't find ??? texture."
Write down the missing .ace file, locate it and place it in your route texture file, then, try again. You don't have to exit the editor to do this. When the object can be placed, you have found all the missing textures.SRV Ron Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-15-02, 09:15 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." Dick van den Hoven figured it all out for you: find all the *.ace files for each default *.s file in crossref.zip, available in the Train-Sim library; it even tells you whether you need to worry about Snow, Night and seasonal variations.Michael Vone

Apr-16-02, 03:59 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." I haven't quite figured this site out yet? I can log into the Forum but not the Download portion of site????? I wish to get the file mentioned in a prior messages. I have written an extensive program for managing shape files which I will release as Freeware. I wish to add an exception routine to the program for the files not following a good naming convention. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-17-02, 05:51 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." Thanks much for file, it downloaded fine! I can see why they weren't to concerned with naming conventions, there is a lot of texture sharing! You must be commended on your hard work! I hope to have the exceptions added to the program soon. This should make life easier for all of us. I just want to pick and choose shapes I want, not just copy everything to the new route. The program handles class, movement of all necessary files for the chosen shape from route to route automatically and updates the destination *.ref file. Its fully functional now, just need to allow for the exceptions. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-18-02, 08:40 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." Hi,The great problem with files with the same name in different routes is that you cannot be sure if they are the same.
A texture called bus.ace can be red in Europe1 and yellow in Europe2.A long time ago, I have made lists which files are used in more then one default route. A asteriks denotes files with different file properties, like date, time, size. Here they are:

Apr-21-02, 02:30 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." Those look like some of the "missing objects" that Jim Steven and Dick hunted down and fixed. If you're using one of the "stuffitpack" utilities, all the repaired/replaced SD files are in the \Stuffed folder for that, the ace files and some of the s files already existed, but the objects didn't appear in any of the original routes or their ref files because there was either something wrong with them or they weren't finished when the MS marketing dept told KUJU "ship it NOW!" Apr-22-02, 11:48 AM (EST) 11. "RE: Finding the textures assigned to a shape." Hi,Yes that are the so called missing objects. Many of them can found in several routes. Most of the time the .sd files are missing, the .s files and the .ace files are installed with the game. They are not referenced by the original .ref files. What have you done with the list? Several .ace files are missing in your list, but in my original they are there.Well, this can give a discussion what to do with these objects. Personnally I think, the route builder delivers all the .sd files, Jim has a package for this and the .s and .ace files are hidden in the default routes and can be copied from there. I think the cross-reference should be enhanced so that it is clear in which route the hidden objects reside. But I will no do this in a short term. I am too sad that I have done a bunch of work this weekend and noone gives a reaction Dick van den Hoven

The list of files above is not the complete file only the ones in question, the output from a program which is analyzing the directories in Train Sim and comparing them to the files found CrossRef_USA2.txt and the other routes. The 2 is the rout the error was found in USA2 and the S=Shape and the T=Texture. Probably as sniper says the whole thing was probably frozen in time and shipped as is.I have noticed a lof of files in a route are not mentioned in the *.ref file. I don't know if they were not used in final version and just left or not. Possibly they are compound shapes in the *.ref which use several others in the SHAPES Dir?The end product to this endeavor is an automated databank of the shapes in MS Train Sim which we can use without a lot of digging and copying. The program is coming along well.
