Apr-15-02, 10:33 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" The closest thing I can think of would be some of the stone Aquaducts that Microsoft provided with the original program. You might be able to use them to look sort of like the Rockville Bridge. I drive past it several times a year on my way to the Penn State home football games from my home in Philadelphia. It is a beautiful bridge and I can't wait to see it recreated for MSTS. That is also a beautiful route in general. Just don't forget the Statue Of Liberty just north of the bridge in the middle of the Susquehana River there I always look for that little landmark in the middle of the river as I am driving along that route on rt. 322 north of Harrisburg just before you get into Dauphin. So I hope you include the Statue Of Liberty there on your route as well. Plus it would also make a pretty cool real life easter egg for people to find on your route since it is there in the real world too. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-16-02, 09:49 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" mdimaio, are you working east from Harrisburg towards Philadelphia or east from Pittsburgh and Altoona towards Harrisburg? I was planning on starting work on laying track from Philadelphia towards Harrisburg, but I don't want to be laying the same track you are and I want to make sure the line from Philadelphia to Harrisburg will work with the NEC Extension. I know the area around Harrisburg pretty well as far as the scenery along the tracks is concerned, I travel along their alot especially in the fall when I go to see the Penn State football games. Rt. 322 going to Penn State runs along the line north of Harrisburg so I am driving right next to the tracks. I do not have any track plans for the area though. I am also pretty busy with working on the NEC Extension so I would not be able to lay track in the area going north from Harrisburg around the Rockville bridge. I really look forward to seeing this area modeled in the game as it is a really beautiful area and I driven along it many times. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully you will be able to find someone who can lay the track for you in this area soon. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-16-02, 11:45 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" George,I am working from gallitzin to Harrisburg and then will take on H to Philly. I am at the Gallitzin cut and am now trying to join two tracks outside the Portage and allegeny tunnels. I won't get back to it until tonight. In the Harrisburg segment, Ive got both turf and marker available. Duncannon to as far south as just north of Lemoyne and Steelton. No farther west than Enola And Harrisburg proper and I head north and west. The markers were generated by that Data base one can download at train-sim.com. The trackwork is very complicated. One can chose one's poison. I chose the mountains first because they seem easier than Harrisburg. If you want the marker and turf, I can send you the cd. You will have to do harrisburg either way. Some tiles will have to be deleted. I put too many In. In the Gallitzin area, I have deleted 20 without any difficulty.

Apr-17-02, 00:31 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" I am laying track from Lancaster to Harrisburg my route ends on the west at tiles numberered 11084 /14334 & 14333
I putting down double track with major branches. Then I exoect to work eastward with a four track line from Lancaster to Thorndale or Malvern tiles there are numbers 11021/ 14323 &14324To Mike and GMX149
If you keep those tiles in mind as you build from your end I'll try to matchup with you there. I am wondering if that is absolutely necessary. I'm thinking that it might be simpler to just create common train consists that we could run across the route and simply create common start and end points where they enter and leave our individual divisions. With just track and terrain I'm pushing close to 500 mb on my portion of the route alone. We'd end up trading CD's and loading each division as spearate routes, by my line of reasoning. Does that sound viable to you?Pennsyfan2

Apr-17-02, 09:11 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" Well, the reason we wanted to lay the track from the 30th Street Station on the NEC Extension in Philadelphia to Harrisburg was because the electrified tracks from the NEC end in Harrisburg. We figured that because of this Harrisburg was the logical place to have the split between the two routes, using Harrisburg as a crew change point. If you want to build the line from Philadelphia to Harrisburg though that would be great and you could tie it in to what we are doing on the NEC Extension. Just don't place signals, mileposts, car spawners, sounds, or pick up objects on the route. They will create a problem when we try to tie it into the NEC extension. I have already built a short section of the line you are working on in the NEC Extension to allow it to easily join with the NEC when you get to Philadelphia. If you can work on the Philadelphia to Harrisburg section of it then I can continue working up towards NYC and get there that much faster. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you again. Apr-18-02, 11:50 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" Bill yolu have specified specific numeric block numbers. This is going to be a stupid question. How did or where did you get that number or numbers? I know that the numbwers are available in hex on screen etc. Is there any command which will tell the user which tiles he is using in straight numerical sequence or are you converting the hex numbers to base 10? Apr-18-02, 02:50 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-02 AT 02:52 PM (EST)Mike, Those numbers are found at the bottom of the RGE to the right of the lat/lonEvery tile in the RGE has two numbers, When you place the cursor over a populated tile you will see the coordinates and world tile numbers at the bottom of the RGE. Those numbers are listed as x/y locations in the camera view box when you are working in the route editor. They will be useful, I think, in locating common start and end points for activities that will allow me to bring a train across from your route to mine and pass it on to the next div in the PRR route building project. It would eliminate the necessity of trying to perfectly match my track to yours or to gmx149 on my east side, He's building in what the PRR called the Philadelphia terminal division. I'm building in the Harrisburg division, and you're currently working what was known as the middle division. If we build them as separate routes rather than trying to create one huge route it will save a lot of system overhead. That way each of us can continue to enhance our own divisional routes, I think it will reduce problems created with signals, etc by trying to combine routes, before we have our bugs worked out. Then we can maybe try combining all these into one complete route From Philadelhia to Pittsburgh. or even NY to Pittsburgh via NEC connected through GMX and Motelycrue's route/s.GMX149! How do you feel about this? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

At Harrisburg and Enola we have the issue of electrified track meeting the middle div.(non electric) So we really can't join our track together. We will have to trade motive power at those points since I'm planning to use GG1's and other Electric locomtives on my route. Actually we will may trade consists as well.I'm open to other ideas or suggestions you or GMX149 might have on this issue.pennsyfan2 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-18-02, 04:53 PM (EST) 11. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" I was aware of that and was going to suggest two versions of Harrisburg. We could bring in the broadway on GG-1s and end it end Harrisburg and then start it with a new activity. That's why the version of the mainline has to be kept separate. Have you done the track in Harrisburg yet? I just got all the track fixed in gallitzin and am moving quickly to Altoona. I found out what is meant by datum shift despite all my efforts there is a two mile gap between the end of the the crossen quad and the start of the the hollidaysburg quad. I created some thrilling mountain trackage that never existed to bring the two together. Only a purist will know. If you've done the HB trackage, I would love the tiles. BTW, where does opne find the tile number of an individual tile? I have bbeen running an E-8 over cliff in sheer fun. BTW, the gurus are wrong.. I created what is an either a reverse loop or a wye in Gallitzin. I was able to run a train back to a its starting place. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

You will find each tile listed by numbers in the <world> file of your route ie w-11026 14334-w.Turnout(switch points) can effect a loop or wye's functionality according to the path. Actually the only loop that I think is a problem is that created when you make a circle of track(360dg) where you try to set the start and end point as the same point 0 and 360 deg. You can make a 359 deg circle and have no problem running a train from startpoint 0 to end point 359 but you can't complete the circle.pennsyfan2 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-19-02, 09:29 AM (EST) 14. "RE: Rockville Bridge in Harrisburg, PA" The idea I had was this have the Harrisburg station and yard on both routes. Have the Harrisburg to Philadelphia route end at the north end of the yard and connect to the NEC Extension we are building at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. Also have the Harrisburg to Pittsburgh section of the line end at the southern end of the Harrisburg Yard and station. Then you can use the Harrisburg yard and station area as a crew change point. And tying it into the NEC Extension will allow you to run a train from Pittsburgh to Washington D.C. or NYC when we get there in just two activities. Only having to change trains and routes when you get to Harrisburg. Also including the same station and yard area in both routes will give you more of a feel that you are picking up where you left off on the other route when you load the second one, giving it more of a feel of consistency to your activities. What do you guys think of that idea. Also a short section of the Harrisburg line was put into the NEC Extension which should make it alot easier to tie the Harrisburg to Philadelphia line into it. You would just need to continue building from where it ends there. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
