Apr-08-02, 12:30 PM (EST) "Disappearing track section and rails" This is a two part question. First, I have had a couple of occasions recently after working on the Columbia Gorge route in RE, exiting, then going back into RE, I find a section of track missing. Is this what happens when you do a save while a piece of track is selected? I know that in Michael Vone's route building guide, he says many times make sure nothing is selected when you save.Second question--A couple of nights ago, after a session in RE, I took my "ugly" BQ's for a test run. The train ran through the route just fine, but in the area where I had just been working, the rails (not the whole track section) would disappear and reappear. This would happen sometimes when I wasn't moving! I haven't seen it happen since. I know there have been discussions of disappearing rails but I haven't had time to search them out.Any help is appreciated. Thanks

"RE: Disappearing track section and rails" LAST EDITED ON Apr-08-02 AT 01:33 PM (EST)on your First questionFrom my experience with the RE yes if a track section/Road Section is Selected while saving usually it will Corrupt the Track/Road Data base.So to Prevent that or anything close to it happening Make sure nothing is Selected. Point your Mouse to an area that isn't Populated by anything and CLICK a few times just to make sure That nothing is selected then go and save.As for the second Question im not sure what causes that since i have never encountered that "Yet" but im sure it's lurking just around the Corner...

"RE: Disappearing track section and rails" If it is scenery covering and uncovering the track, depending on exactly where you are viewing from, set the tile error value (probably not the exactly correct name) from the default value of 1 to a value of 0. Makes the program do a more accurate job of calculating just exactly where the terrain really is.David Beach. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Disappearing track section and rails" LAST EDITED ON Apr-08-02 AT 03:59 PM (EST)Cal,I save every five or ten minutes and never pay attention to whether an object(not track)is selected or not. I have saved hundreds of times with an object selected and it has not ever created a problem that I was aware of. However with track selected, saving while it will definately cause problems. Your second question? I have no clue.Bill Burnett Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-09-02, 00:40 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Disappearing track section and rails" Hey All,
In regards to the second question, I've had a similar problem where the rails get zapped. I'll be cruising along in my 44 tonner when all the sudden the ballast is flyin and me and the fireman are being vibrated beyond recognition. Then it re rails itself just like in the movies. One thing I've noticed is that it only happens near water, at least in my case. Don't know if the two are related, may be just a coincidence Best Regards

Apr-09-02, 10:54 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Disappearing track section and rails" As it happens, this was near water, on the bank of the Columbia River. Actually it was on a narrow strip of fill that crosses a little bay on the river bank. This is water on both sides. However the problem only happened once. I have run the route several times since and no problems. Go figure!
