Apr-08-02, 12:55 PM (EST) 1. "RE: First time start" By all means, get Michael Vone's "Step-by-Step Guide to Route Building" available from Abacus for $15. Trying to figure out the Route Editor, Route Geometry Extractor and Activity Editor on your own is nearly impossible. The guide is excellent. There is an excellent tutorial that actually takes you through the process of building a new route from beginning to end.So get get the book! If you don't, you'll probably just waste that $15 on something like food or gas! Good luck to you, my friend. Remember, everyone is here to help or be helped.

Apr-08-02, 10:40 PM (EST) 3. "RE: First time start" The "Step by Step Guide to Route Building" was designed for people like you. It is largely based on discoveries posted in this Forum, but scattered through countless threads. Also, I have tested all the procedures, since what you find in this Forum is not always accurate or complete. Some advice: Even after building the "First Route" proposed in the Guide, don't start a big project right away. Try something small, so you can throw it away if you mess up, or so you have something working in a short time if you do well. Practice teaches more than any Guide!Michael Vone

Apr-09-02, 07:49 AM (EST) 5. "RE: First time start" First of all learn all that you can from the forums on here and/or buying the tutorial book on route building. There is alot of features and commands in the route editor that Microsoft/KUJU did not publish in their manuals and the help you get in the forum is really priceless. Thanks to everyone who participates in here. Research your route and try to get as much data on your route as you can before hand. Generate your terrain with your DEM data or however you plan to do it. Then start laying your tracks and scenery. Also add your signals, mileposts, car spawners, pick up objects or anything else that affects the tracks last once you are finished laying your track and placing your scenery. The route editor seems to have fewer crashes that way. Also save a back up very regularly, the route editor has a tendency to crash every so often and if you don't you could lose all of your hard work that you put into building your route. I hope that this advice can help you in getting started and I am sure we will all be looking forward to your route. Good luck on it, George. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-09-02, 08:03 AM (EST) 6. "RE: First time start" Hey red,Just out of curiosity, could we possibly know each other? I live in Lansing and I know the route that you speak of! (I only live about a mile from the switch from the CSX main that takes NS down to Jackson! If you have a moment, feel free to email me.
(lewist@arq.net)Let me know who you are....I am curious.....
(BTW, I would like to do the "Flint Subdivision of the CN RR someday. If you want, we could work on a project together sometime, does this sound like a good idea to you? Please, let me know!)-Tim Lewis Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
