Apr-02-02, 10:09 PM (EST) "Switch Problems Revisited" Hello to all,I've been working on a route that has had some major switch problems. Take a look at these two screens. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that at the point end of the switch, no matter whether it's set for the turnout or not, one point or the other should be in contact with a mainline rail at all time. The first pic shows the switch set to stay on the mainline. Notice that both contacts are inside. The second pic shows the switch set to take the turnout.Anybody have an idea on how to fix this? And I do not have XTracks installed.Pic #1

You see, sometimes there's a derail and broken couplers, and other times there's no trouble at all, though the train always does its strange tug of war dance going through the switch.Lonnie Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-03-02, 08:09 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" I've had that happen before, for some reason the front truck of the locomotive goes one way and the rear wants to go the other. I don't know why it only happens on certain switches. I'm wondering if activity paths have something to do with it, even though all I use are manual switches.Jeff Leslie Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-04-02, 03:22 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" I believe this is a bug in TrainSim. I have two switches that break couplers regularly on a custom route. If you are running at a good speed and uncouple the engine just ahead of the switch the engine will go one way and the cars will go the other. This only happens (including breaking the couplers) when the beginning of the session is fairly distant from the switch (~>25Km). I have this same problem at mile 54.5 in NEC route. I added an additional switch ahead and behind the problem switch and the problem just moved to the added switch at appx. mile 54. If you start the session near the switch this seems not always to be a problem. The error also seems to be made worse the farther your start position is from the switch. Note that saving the game then reloading still has the beginning of the session where you originally started so that saving and reloading does not fix the problem. I have not looked at the graphic for the switch in question - how did you get that picture? Was your picture taken in the sim or in the editor?Bob... Apr-04-02, 03:37 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-02 AT 03:39 AM (EST)Yes, I have the same problem on a new route I'm designing. At one point there are problems: derail, broken couplers, but most often some tracks take an exit, others the other exit. I've changed all the tracks and switches, but the problem remains. Probably it has to do with the geographical location from the switch. If you want to try, the route can be found here, the switch is that on the nord side from the station "cellers-llimiana". Try to drive in direction north-south with more than 60 km/h.Someone has suggested that it could be a problem with the bounding box from the tracks, but I can't fix it. Apr-04-02, 08:58 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" The picture was taken in the sim. I placed a 'Yard Definition' box around the switches in the route so that I can watch the entire train pass through the switches. It's amazing how the train behaves going through the switch. Bounding boxes or not, the train has all kinds of problems at these switches. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-04-02, 12:28 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" Exactly which switch is that? Are all identical switches performing the same way? Do you have an AI path set to run over it? Do you have a user path set to run over it?Just some questions I thought of.Jeff Leslie Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Apr-04-02, 12:40 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" Good question Jeff!
Knowing if one type, or exactly which types are causing this problem will go a long way to a fix. I too have watched consists go thru switches making like an accordian at a polish wedding reception!
Lonny, what switch is that your showing in your first post?Denny

Apr-04-02, 02:18 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" I understand where your at with derail, Bob. I do the same, plus increased flange height, coupler strength, and derail buffer settings.
I "drive" as close to "real" as I can and don't feel at all bad about the tweaks. We're just doing work-arounds on the bugs in the sim.
My associate at nectrackteam, Vinny, is convinced by what he's seen in the route editor that MS rushed KUJU into getting it out too soon, and I agree. And now we're all paying the bill. But, I still love it!
I just found a track glitch at MP29.50 on NEC that was causing me derail and accordian problems while I was making 2Way Street activity. Vinny will fix it.
Regards,
Denny

Apr-04-02, 07:49 PM (EST) 12. "RE: Switch Problems Revisited" So far I haven't checked what happens if an AI train runs over it. And as far as I can tell, it happens to any switch that I put into the route. I've tried the automatic switches, manual switches, the different angled switches, the result is the same.Crash, Boom, Bam......Lonnie
