Mar-28-02, 08:22 AM (EST) 1. "RE: help with DEM" I got the same problem too, I got over some of it by loading into the Route Editor but asking to rebuild the track database then agreeing with the missing object warnings as they appeared. The route unfortuanately has some track laid already and somewhere this is causing the problem. I tried deleting all the objects out of the route to get back to a plain landscape and save it away. The TDB error kept coming back and I always had to use the advanced option of rebuild TDB on loading. At least you could scroll around in the RE though. I found the DEM data had 'troughs' in it which would need a lot of smoothing out, some tracks had been laid and then the scenery leveled so when you remove them you have to repair the scenery there as well. There must be a buried track somewhere causing the TDB error, I never found it, but I did see the shape of the DEM data, rolling hills and a nice river cutting through, but I decided the data needed too much repair work.Terry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-29-02, 00:43 AM (EST) 2. "RE: help with DEM" AdambMy suggestion about learning to work with DEMS is to get in there and do it from scratch. You see the results of DEMS in the default routes of MSTS. you won't learn much about the process just by looking at routes where it was used to create terrain. There is lots of free info here in the forum, and the five dollars for Rich Garber's DEM tutorial is a real bargain for someone really serious about creating realistic terrain with out the tedium of hand carving.Use keywords DEM, Demex, Demtutor, microdem, tstf, tstools etc to collect info from this forum about the demming process.Michael Vone's "Step by Step Guide to Route Building" is a bit more pricey at $15 but covers nearly all aspects of route building.pennsyfan2
