Mar-24-02, 11:22 AM (EST) "PO&N Version 5 "Tweeked" Wow!" First it must be said that this is an excellent route. Detailed varied and visually stunning. When it first came out some of us found the ground texture a bit well, "too bold". Sniper informed us that we could copy terrtex files from PO&N4, over to PO&N5. the result would be a different terrain texture.Well yesterday I did this. I copied all files from terrtex PO&N4 to version 5 (minus the snow folder).fired up the sim, set back to wait for a crash, the "send to Msts message" smoke from the hard drive, etc. You can imagine my surprise when the it loaded without a glitch! This has in my opinion greatly changed PO&N5. The terrain (grass) colors are softer, better blinded and very real looking. The "grain fields" remain the same, frankly I like them and a run to "seventy seven" using the BNtrailertrain activity
gave me a quick test and some great visuals.I very much recommend this "adaptation" and thank Sniper for suggesting it as an alternative.JD Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-24-02, 09:01 PM (EST) 3. "RE: PO&N Version 5 "Tweeked" Wow!" No wasn't that thread. I don't speak that dialect and hence have no clue to what that said.Simply put, as I understand it... terrtex is the folder where terrain ace files live. The files that control grass, and other ground textures and colors for PO&N 5 have the same name as they did in PO&N4 however they "look different" so copying files from 4 to 5 will change the look. Some folks are cautious, prudent and intelligent and they make a backup of something like terrtex just in case something goes awry. And then there is the "damn the topedos" approach. This is my ususal technique. So I unzipped a copy of PO&N4 into a temp file, DID NOT run the batch file, and extracted the contents of terrtex (minus the snow folder) into terrtex withing the PO&N5 route file. Thats all there is to it.The result is striking..I think the best terrain on any route..
no disrespect to East Metro and O&WV which are also very nice.If you back up your terrtex file you can give it a try and undo it with a quick switch if you don't like what you see.Good luck, JD Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
