Mar-23-02, 08:21 PM (EST) "New Model, Decatur Passenger station" The first photo obviously is the actual thing that was almost completely razed in the early 70's. All that is left for the model is the textures and she will be in my next update to the route taking care of those passengers.

Mar-24-02, 03:31 PM (EST) 5. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" Here's two generic stations I made: Actually this is resized CNJ terminal, which was oversized and now moved to represent the Bayonne stationThe platforms are separate objects
Elizabeth station, which is two-story building. The street level is not visible in this pic(tracks are elevated).

Mar-24-02, 10:45 AM (EST) 4. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" here is a Question for ya, when it comes to Modeling which im getting into now how do you get the damn lights to work in tsm has anyone made lights? well the question is raised because im building the Septa Ell Structure and it would look better with "Street lights" under it that actually work, and when i get around to doing the stations the lights would go good with that also Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-24-02, 05:00 PM (EST) 6. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" Thanks for the reply David. I asked because I just picked up a copy of TSM and I wondered just exactly what kind of potential it really has (it's hard to find here ... been looking since October!!). BTW, I'm a newby to 3D modeling too. Guess we'll see!!Ray

Mar-25-02, 09:11 AM (EST) 8. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" Yes and yes! In the first photo the far left segment is still standing. I measured the crap out of it. From all the photos I've seen, the lengths of all the segments seem the same, only the depth changed so I estimated that. The heights of the other sections I had to estimate using data from the first. Probably more than you wanted to know! It's hard to see in the photo I posted but the windows throughout are all the same as are most of the doors.I've been unable to find drawings at the IC historical society, though it has been 4 years since I last checked and they have cataloged more stuff so I should check. I also have this structure about 70% done in an HO scale model.David Klemm

Mar-25-02, 02:55 PM (EST) 11. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" Hi David, your station sure does look good...
Just one question: Why was the station razed?
I might have to add that I live close to Hamburg, Germany
and have been to Decatur back in '99 on a school exchange
programme as Decatur is our "Sister City". As far as
I could see, Decatur is a considerably large city, and
I just can't imagine that there hasn't been any demand
for railway services...By the way: I am all new around here in the route design
forum, so far I've only done locomotive modeling, the first
model recently made it to beta stage. Today, I was going
to announce my first route design project around here and
found your thread about this place I know... what a coincidence.PeterVonFrosta2 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-25-02, 03:19 PM (EST) 12. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" Peter Van Frosta;Hello. While in the Air Force I was stationed at Ramstein AB from 1985 to 1988. Love Germany. My great grandfather came from a small town by Dresden.Decatur lost passenger service many years ago. The Wabash station is still standing though in very bad shape. Many have talked about restoring it and turning it to a shopping place.Welcome to route building and good luck! You will become frustrated a few times with the editor, but all of us have. I've been building my route since last July. Any questions, ask them as most of us have had the errors and can help.David Klemm

Mar-25-02, 09:16 PM (EST) 13. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" Peter, and David:As a born and raised Decaturite, I don't recall every seeing a regular passenger service on the IC. Most IC passengers drove over to Champaign. The Wabash however offered daily services to Chicago and St. Louis.David, I think the station was long abandoned but terminally damaged from a propane explosion in the Wabash yards, just East of the station, I think in 1971. I was in the Navy ( left to join on the Wabash to Chicago) at the time but I know it was razed just after that. The explosion occured about where your Wabash tracks stop to the East. The cafe in the middle of the yards was leveled with 10 - 15 folks dead. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-25-02, 09:35 PM (EST) 14. "RE: New Model, Decatur Passenger station" Wabash; While I was only 9, I remember that explosion. My dad was getting ready for work and said the whole house shook and we lived about 10 miles northwest of the explosion. We lived near I72 and US51. I will probably make the Wabash station as well. It was so close to the IC one, I've got photos and it is a much simpliar one then the IC.David Klemm
