Mar-20-02, 01:45 PM (EST) "Snow and night textures" I have made lots of objects for the sim and have one person who has found that their routes don't work if they use my stuff in the winter , I know that a file called extshape.dat is responsible for the handling of this and should be in the snow directory of the route...but I have searched the computer and cannot find the file extshape.dat....do I have to make one from scratch and if so how is it done?
ThanksRick Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-20-02, 02:04 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Snow and night textures" When you make an object it should have two files in the shapes folder. The whatever.s is the actual shape file, the whatever.sd is the extended shape data file. The sd file is never compressed since it's very small, and always editable in wordpad. Here's what an sd file looks like;SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0t1t______shape ( c_bus.s
ESD_Detail_Level ( 6 )
ESD_Alternative_Texture ( 257 )
ESD_Bounding_Box ( -1.32711 -0.00673199 -4.09969 1.3229 3.27285 3.97208 )
)The line in there for ESD_Alternative_Texture is the problem child, here's the codes:0 no alternative textures
1 alternative texture in snow
256 alternative texture in night
257 alternative textures both in snow and night
252 alternative textures in all season folders So in that example, ESD_Alternative_Texture ( 257 ), there has to be an ace file in \textures, \textures\snow, and \textures\night or there will be an error when trying to run it at night or in snow. Done this way;SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0t1t______shape ( bridge.s
ESD_Detail_Level ( 0 )
ESD_Alternative_Texture ( 0 )
ESD_Bounding_Box ( -13.5512 -0.00628281 -0.170936 13.4476 19.2391 0.170939 )
ESD_No_Visual_Obstruction ()
)Since the alternative texture is zero, you need only the ace file in the root of textures, since even when it's run on a snowy night the sim won't be looking for an alternative texture for it.

Mar-20-02, 11:09 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Snow and night textures" Rick,I had a similar problem as yours. I simply copied and pasted
the .ace file from the Texture file to the Snow file.
It worked for me, but you might have something different.Bob Staples Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-21-02, 04:19 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Snow and night textures" It was something different since I'm the one who asked Rick for an answer. Actually Sniper's response above is right on the money. Those values in the ESD line of the SD file must be correct. Actually I also bypassed the problem by loading my Snow Texture into the Global Texture file in the main MSTS file.
This is a more route specific fix.

Mar-21-02, 04:56 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Snow and night textures" Its all to do with the Tsection.DAT file ...this file controls the entire sim for track and objects related to track...it can become messed up so it doesn't work if not careful...so I choose not to discuss the methods of how and where you would put this to work....If you want to find out how it's done search the forums for some answers...I have had several folks contact me about problems so for my own sake I wont give a lesson on the technique.Sorry.Controll Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
