Mar-17-02, 02:23 PM (EST) "Route Designers, and etc.... " Hi... I just wanted to post a couple of things. First of all, to everyone that takes the time to create for this sim.... Great job, the more I download, the more impressed I become. It takes alot to build these routes, and such (I know, because I am building one myself.) And, I think it is really great that everyone is so willing to share. Let me tell you, all of you, your work, time, and effort is greatly appreciated. If you could only hear the "ooohs" and "aahhs" and "now that's cool" remarks that come from my kids everytime they run a train, or use a new loco, or run a new route that was created by someone from this site. I just thought I would pass along the kudos from me, and my children about how awesome we think your projects are. Keep up the good work, all of you, and don't let the naysayers take away from your accomplishments. The second thing is, I was wondering, and this may be biting off more than I can chew, but I thought it would be nice, and interesting, to create some military vehicles as flat car loads, both modern, and Second World War. I am a World War II historian in my spare time, so finding the techical data for what I want to create is not going to be a problem, but, would anyone be interested? Either that, or I was going to create a military vehicle "museum" to place along a route. I am not promising a delivery date, or anything like that for this project, but if anyone is interested, perhaps I will get started on it. I'll have to play with TSM to figure out how to shape the vehicles, but I was going to start with a limited set, mostly likely, a M4A1, and M4A3 Sherman, and an M3 Halftrack to start, and perhaps a German PzKw MkIV, along with a howitzer or two. We'll see how it progresses, and what the frustration level for this might be. But, I thought I would pose the question. Besides, it's in my area of expertise, and I would create an object worthy of the other work I have seen here. Anyway, thanks for the great work, and hopefully my route will be completed soon.... Tim.
(Currently contructing the Chicago, Cedar Rapids, and Western, hopefully it will be done soon.) Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

" I can speak to your second thing, in that I share an interest in MRS operations in WWII, and have acquired some copies of USATC equipment diagrams from those days. That's about as far as I can get it at this point, because I'm just learning how to work with 3D Canvas. There were some interesting double truck flat cars that might make a fairly easy first project ... which your tanks might look really nice on. I'm thinking in particular of a trainload of M4A3E8s I saw in a book a while back... -Phil Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-19-02, 02:36 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Route Designers, and etc.... " Phil. That sounds like a good idea. My dad, and brothers are HUGE railfans, so, I checked with him on information on flatcars used by the railroads to transport armored vehicles, and he came up with the same things, he actually has an HO double truck flat car, that might come in handy to do the modeling. I too am learning how to model 3D, and I am using TSM by abacus, my first apartment building turned out okay, so we'll see where go from there. There is also the possibility of a trainload of M1A2's and Bradley's ,but I am getting ahead of myself, I need to try my hand at the Sherman, or even the M7 perhaps, as 3D model. I have plastic kits of both, that I have built, so, I have the textures camera ready, as it were. I plan on looking into the project this weekend, and seeing how it goes. I will keep everyone posted!! Tim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
