Feb-28-02, 05:58 PM (EST) "I've had it with is F**king Route editor" This is it for me. I've had it. After working several months trying to create the MBTA route from Boston to Providence,RI, the damn thing did it to me again. Seems my work is down the proverbial tubes again. Even though I backed it up after every editing sessions, it did me no $&^%^#$%^ good. MSTS crashed on me so when I reinstalled it and re installed the backup of MBTA, this is what I get as messages. I even tried to rebuild the track data to no &%^$%$# avail. This was my fourth try at creating this route. NO MORE. THAT'S IT. CAPUT. FINI. Feb-28-02, 07:54 PM (EST) 2. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" Grow up and deal with it.Now given that, make sure you delete all the tdb, tit, rdb and rit files in your route folder before rebuilding. Also delete any .bk files of the same name. I've never seen it fail to rebuild then, except........Sometimes when rebuilding it cruises off into the wild blue yonder for ever and ever. When its evident that its not comming back hit the escape key. It will ask if you want to quit, and if you want to save world object placement changes. Answer yes and your databases will have been rebuilt.-JohnCS

Mar-01-02, 00:38 AM (EST) 9. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" Hobart,I stop and do a complete backup of my entire route literally every hour. Takes a few minutes, but that way I never loose more than an hour's work. I would be embarrased to tell you what my backup file number is up to now.Bill Burnett Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-01-02, 02:06 AM (EST) 10. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" As they say "patience is a virtue".
For my two cents worth, I can't really understand posting a host of expletives to vent frustration at a computor program as if anyone will really give a hoot.
I learned the hard way and agree with Bill.
Back up at least every hour and not all is lost.
I have also learned that despite the shortcomings of the editor, It does get easier the more one experiments and do not expect a PO&N at the first attempt.

I too have run into such problems with my Maglev route i been working on for the past 4 months..I lost a whole weekend of work a while back playing around with a custom texture but I had a cd backup of my work so restoring it was not a problem.. Always back up your work after changes and reboot often ... this weekend ill be moving all my MSTS to a new system and hopefully it will go smoothly...patm41

Mar-01-02, 12:27 PM (EST) 18. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" to Simerjoe:
you could send it to someone else for test, I have heard that everything might help: from just rebooting to complete reinstalling(and formating the HD). Of course testing on another machine might help. If you have enough backups, you may find a working copy(I hope you have).to Southern_Railway:
Please tell what's your backup number, mine is 101 but I stated to number them after the big crash in October. That's the number of "official" backups which I make after every succesful database rebuild. It took about a month when I filled my new 40GB HD...Enocell Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-01-02, 11:41 PM (EST) 22. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" Hey SR,
I always test an activity before backing up, that way I don't back up a hoser. My problem is I forget to back up as often as I know I should. I broke down and bought a CDRW and am going to start backing up to CD. Best Regards

Mar-01-02, 08:13 AM (EST) 12. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" You have a backup of the route before it crashed right? If so try this out to see if it works. Uninstall Train Simulator completely, reinstall it so that you are starting with a clean slate. And then reinstall the backup of the route. If it completely locked up maybe it did something to one of the files in Train Simulator itself during the crash. You could also try sending the files to either myself or one of the other people in here to see if they can get it working. I am sure people would be willing to help if you wanted them to. Maybe we can figure out something to try that you haven't yet? Just a thought. I would love your route to continue however. Especially if it can be tied into my NEC extension somehow when I get up into that area. I would eventually like to create a route going from Boston to Washingto D.C. or even further if that is possible That's a little ways off yet though. Mar-01-02, 09:13 AM (EST) 14. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" Joe;While the editor can sometimes be more touchy then my wife! Don't tell her I said that please, something had to happen that wasn't dealt with correctly and now this error has cropped up. I can say that since starting route building last July, I've never had this error, knocking on wood. Did you have a save go bad before this error? Or another error that led to this? I believe this error is usually secondary to something else happening. It's my opinoin that if you use the route editor doing steps A, B, C it works great. But do step C before B and grab your boots. I understand your frustration with loosing the route. I would say a few things if I lost my last 8 months of work.David Klemm

Mar-01-02, 10:40 AM (EST) 17. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" I want to thank all of you for responding. As far as the explicit language goes, can you blame me for showing my frustration? As soon as I leave this response, I am going to back everything up to disk and do a reformat. I hope when I get back on line, I'll have something positive to report.Signed "Frustrated".

Mar-01-02, 06:44 PM (EST) 20. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" I have to Agree with the backups I do Back up my Progress on a Regular Basis (Not every Hour) but close enough, and I try to keep my Most recent working backup present and ready for use if needed, I also keep a Backup of the Route before work has begun mainly for the Terrain Purpose (if I do something to the Terrain that I Don't like and can't be fixed, easily backed up Ever since I upgraded my Processor from Pentium III 500 MHz to 850 MHz and the Ram from 256 to 384 I have not experienced any Crashes, Yes those pesky black Screens but no where near as often, and as for Track Database Errors and all that happy crap I Noticed it happened way more on a Slower Processor and less Memory. Since the upgrade 2 Months ago i have Experienced No Errors what so ever just black screens once in a while Bob... Philly, Pa Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Mar-01-02, 10:53 PM (EST) 21. "RE: I've had it with is F**king Route editor" I too have had my troubles with the Route Editor. It crashes, I get mad, threaten my computer, curse Microsoft, and then I get back at it.I've made a new deal with the Route Editor, everytime it crashes, I drink a shot of Rum. It's lucky for me and the project that I'm working on, that things are pretty stable, though every now and then - crash - Never give up, at least until the men in the white coats are knocking on your door. Then it might be time to take a break.Good luck and best wishes.Lonnie
