Feb-24-02, 03:57 AM (EST) "How about this route now that it may be possible?? :-)" Well now that we have an extenstion from PHL 30th Street Sta, how about this...
Picture your Three Rivers (or Broadway, whichever you prefer) train #41 sitting deep in the bowels of NY Penn Station, your consist is an E-60, a Viewliner sleeper, a Horizon Dinette, 3 Amfleet II cars, a baggage and 4 MHC cars, you depart right on time at 12:45PM, traversing the Bergen tunnels, stopping at Newark, Trenton, crossing the Delaware River and eventually arrive at 30th street station, there you will swap your E-60 and recieve 2 brand new P42's for the run to Chicago, along will more MHC's and roadrailers. You pull out of 30th street, traverse the maze of tracks at ZOO, and find yourself on the Harrisburg line for the run west. You arrive at Harrisburg and drop off and recieve some new MHC's and a roadrailer, you leave the station and cross the Rockville Viaduct and continue West, through Lewistown, Altoona, around the famous Horseshoe Curve, into Johnstown, Greensburg and now you find yourself slowing down around 10Pm for the arrival into Pittsburgh, as you 'round the curve, you gaze at the impressive skyscrapers of downtown PGH and eye the still-standing original Pennsylvania RR Station, you pull your train into the now-present Amtrak station, congratulating yourself on a job well done and on-time!
(This route would be something wouldn't it, well we already have someone working on a Horseshoe segment of the line, the 30th street extension is already out, plus there are Pennsy Position Light signals available for download...yes yes I know these routes would be VERY hard to do accurately, but I believe they can be done, hehe I wish I had route builder experience. Even for shareware, for an accurate route of this, I would gladly pay. (hehe I wont even comment on my idea from Washington to PGH aboard the Capitol Limited....hehehe....) So what is everyone's idea on this...? Anyone up to the task of doing this route accurately?????
Thank you for your time and consideration, and hope you enjoyed my story that may one day become reality!
Tom

"RE: How about this route now that it may be possible?? :-)" Well, right now I am planning on going to Albany and Boston I do want to go west to Harrisburg and Pittsburgh eventually however, and I am including the tracks that branch off of the mainline along the route to allow me or other designers to easily tie in other routes to my NEC extension. But going from Boston or New York City to Washington D.C. should also make for some nice long runs and some interesting activities. Switching around trains in the yard should be fun as well. Depending on how the Horshoe Curve route goes and if routes can be combined somehow I might just consider extending the tracks west with no scenery for the time being however in order to allow you to run into that route as well. That is a long way off however and I will consider that when the time comes. I did design the NEC extension with that in mind however. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
