Feb-21-02, 08:50 PM (EST) "Distant Mountains -- how far away can they be?" In preparing the DEM data for my Northern Utah route, I've come up with a question about distant mountains. If my main line is right along the foot of the mountains, and on the other side of the tracks is the Salt Lake valley and great salt lake, then some more mountains - is this too far for the lo-tiles to show up? I guesstimate the distance to be about 60-70 miles off into the distance. Does anyone know whether these will show up?Thanks Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

You could try finding out yourself with the DEMEX demo mode, otherwise I'll do some checking over the next few days. A great question and one I need to know the anwser to anyway for a project. I think the DM's are visible based on line of site. I am not sure if MSTS has the curvature of the earth correct but it seems to be pretty good. Give it a try. As I don't have access to decent DEM data here in Canada, can distant mountains be created from hand carved scenery? There are some mountains on my route but they don't show up until you get rather close and then sort of grow out of the ground. It would be nice if this data could somehow be transfered to the Lo tiles.Joerg
