Feb-21-02, 03:44 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Bridges Anyone...." Hi Bob,The span as pictured at the lower set of photos is approx 350ft end to end...this is made from 2 of the models I created placed end on end and the height of the span from bottom of support to top of span trusses is approx 90ft. You can link more of the models together to get longer spans across rivers but the height is limited at 90ft for now....I may add more concrete footings in various sizes to span deeper gorges if the community wants them.....LaterControll Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-21-02, 04:46 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Bridges Anyone...." Hi ControllThis is a pic of the two bridges that cross the St. Marys' river from Sault St. Marie Mich., to Sault Saint Marie, Ontario, Canada.
The Arch bridge is the Highway bridge that connects I-75 to Hwy 17 in Ontario. Look closely at the Pic and you will see a second bridge right behind the Arch bridge. This is the Railway Lift bridge that connects the Old Soo line to The CN, CPR, and Algoma Central. I have been trying to find info on span length, but have not been succesful yet. ( The bridge is in the "UP" position )I have not found a suitable Lift bridge like this to use in the sim, and a lift bridge could be used on many routes. You could even try to animate it by making the bridge go up and down.oboe Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Well here is a Pic of the delair bridge it isn't a good one it's the only one i was able to fine but it gives an idea of the type of Bridge it is, it's a Vertical Lift bridge for the former PRSL (Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Lines) it is now used by New jersey transit and Northfolk Southern

Feb-22-02, 05:00 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Bridges Anyone...." Ok, first of all...beautiful. Oh, and STOP IT, goshdurnit. I had just finally given up on creating a route, and decided to spend the rest of my life playing PO&N and Seaview...and now here you go and make objects that scream to be used. Grrrrrrrrr. So, ok. Love the bridge, big time. It's beautiful. And BOY can we use them. Can you make a 1 track variant? And can we hope for some nice steel/rust texture on it? heck, it looks great even if there isn't.A nice steel truss bridge would be good. There's a bridge in the sim, JP2Green, or something like that. It's steel truss, and green, and looks very nice...but it's not high enough. Engines fit through ok, but it chops the top 1/3 off of container cars. If you could edit that object, or just make a duplicate that has a big higher clearance, that'd be great.Other than that, I'd say the biggest lack of bridges is for arch bridges. I have several crossings of a very deep canyon. Obviously, it'd look silly for footings to go all the way down to the ground...I need a big 'ol arch (like at least 200 m). Here are some on the web I've found that would make great templates:
Natchez Trace bridge...it's a road bridge, but has such a beautiful shape.
And of course, the New River bridge, the largest steel span. Classic arch design.Anyways, as I've said...that bridge you have now, looks great. And being compared with the Firth of Forth rail bridge is a good compliment.
Keep up the great work! And grrr...I guess I'd better dust off those route files and get to work again.... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-23-02, 08:57 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Bridges Anyone...." Here's a Truss Bridge I am going to make it in three parts so that folks can put as much or as little bridge on their route as they want or need....and I'll make supports as extra parts as well....

if you look closely you can see where I mismated the sections together in this demo and had some bracings crossed....Enjoy!!ControllP.S. I'll work on a wooden version next and post the three I have then....Later Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-26-02, 08:55 AM (EST) 16. "RE: Bridges Anyone...." I will need the bridge that the NEC uses to cross the Delaware modelled, it would be great if you could create that for me. I won't need it for a little while though, but when I do and I can find some pictures of it then it would be really great if you could model it for my NEC extension project. Another request I have that I could use now would be if you can model buildings. I would really love it if you could somehow model the Philadelphia Art Museum. It is a major landmark that is very visible from the 30th Street Station yard area of my NEC extension project. I had to leave it out of my first release however because I couldn't find someone to model it and there was nothing available that resembled it. If you could create that building it would add alot of realism for my route and I could add it in for my next release. I love those bridges by the way, I can't wait to see them available for download. Keep up the great work and I will be looking forward to more bridges in the future Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-26-02, 03:46 PM (EST) 17. "RE: Bridges Anyone...." Nice looking bridge.A couple of comments though, first, it needs cross members on the bottom to match those on the top. They may be there, buried below ground as the bridge appears to be sitting on grade. The other one, a real nit picky one at that, is there really needs to be a nut and washer assembly at the top and bottom of the tie rods. Friction fits just don't last too long. Could be just another cylinder, concentric to the tie rod, about twice the diameter, and about an inch or two in height.Again, nice bridge that will be a great addition to many routes.David Beach Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-26-02, 06:05 PM (EST) 18. "RE: Bridges Anyone...." Hi,The cross members are buried , but there. As for the nut assemblies, I decided to leave them off due to the fact that in the cab you would not see them anyway...so it was just eye candy and not something that is needed for normal train driving.
Plus it saves the file size and poly counts.LaterControll Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
