Feb-16-02, 08:36 AM (EST) "Route Installations" Hi All train sim fans, I have been a fan since the release of MSTS and am glad that alias files can be used for locos, to save a huge amount of disk space, in my case i have over 500 locos installed and saved over 5 gig of space because of duplicate files.I also have 55 routes installed and that takes 40 gig of disk space, since you talented people have created such great routes can someone tell me why is not possible to make alias files for routes as this will be a fantastic saving, and if alias files did exist could one alias file be created so that it could reference all default shapes, sound, tertex, textures etc etc so that it could be used for any route and just could read in what file it wanted when it wanted it, i also understand that different routes have different files so why can't those files be put within that given route this would eliminate hundreds of files being copied all over the place and chewing up disk space. Feb-16-02, 10:48 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Route Installations" Yes. The location for the shapes, etc., that are required for a route is hardcoded into the program, therefore, alias files will not work. In other words, the Sim sees a directory in the Routes folder and then looks for specific files within that folder. If it finds them, it then determines it is a valid route. At that point, it looks at the Shapes, Textures, etc., directories IN that route folder for the shapes. This is hardcoded in the program. But, there is good news. I would recommend that you obtain Route Control from http://www.howintheworld.com. The reduction of space needed for all those routes will totally impress you.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
