Over the next 5 years, the TRC will loan TRR the funds to purchase the following locomotives: EMD SW-1200 (one)
EMD SW-1500 (one)
EMD SD40-2 (four or five)
EMD F7A/B (two pair)
EMD GP15D or GP20D (open to discussion)
GE Dash-7, 8, or 9 (open to discussion)
Several used models were consideredThese locomotives, after being painted in the distinctive colors of TRR, will be put to work generating income to payback the loan.At the TRC meeting were leading citizens in the Tapiola Region. Metsä Helmer, the aging patriarch of Helmer Logging brought the lively discussion finally to a close, calling for the vote on the issue. Even though there were some dissenting opinions--mostly from Pafvelsson and the head of the Pekkala family--sanity finally reigned to allow everyone to see the advantage of such a plan.The Tapiola Region will be earning 30% on this investment, which was enough to convince even the ever frugal Kerttu and Sammeli families that this was the best for the Region.Some of the plans for the 30% earnings are: Develop a route north to Sointula ("The place of harmony"), the Finnish utopian island community which is well known for their lumbering and fishing industries.
Development of an intermodal center at Skyttela for the products of Virtanen Industries, Salonen Oil, and Klinga Atomic Works.
Development of Tourism in the Pikku Pukki Lakkaväri Kaupunki area.
Development of a new Regional Recreation Center north of Pafvelsson Junction.
Extension of Imperial Heights and Kaleva into the new growth areas west of both locations.Besides those named above, all the other members of the TRC were in attendance. The meeting was held at Pafvelsson Landing, where the members came be rail, road, and water. Pastor Heikki Sarvela led in the invocation and benediction. To celebrate this epic decision, pulla and kahvi (with olut for the men) were served.The next TRC meeting is scheduled for two months from today at the usual time. It is expected at that time to have delivery of the SW-1200, SW-1500, and at least two SD40-2s. That is sure to be an event worth noting.For those who have never traveled to Tapiola, upgraded rail service is now available. Stop by the ticket office to get your tickets....
