Feb-14-02, 03:45 PM (EST) "Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " LAST EDITED ON Feb-14-02 AT 03:51 PM (EST)Hey All, Well I tried my hand at my first Re-Paint. Here’s a Re-Paint of Dereck van Dijk's Rusty brown track texture. Basically all I chanced was the ballast to make it a lighter shade. If anyone is interested in using it let me know. Then I will upload it in a day or so.

Feb-14-02, 04:28 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " Look's great. I would really appreciate if you could help out with something that approaches the light grey ballast used by CSX in West Virginia, like these two:
I have about 40 miles of track laid along the old Parkersburg branch and the right track would really improve the flavor Calembeena Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-14-02, 09:23 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " The ballast would be perfect. The rusty brown might be a bit full-on given my route is a mostly a bridge route from Cincinatti to Norfolk and would be well maintained. Could I mate up one of the existing cleantrack.ace's with your trackbase in some way?My email is david.phillips@med.monash.edu.auDavid aka Calembeena Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-14-02, 09:31 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " Boy!I could sure use some darker ties for the SP Coast Route, and a ballast color that is a bit more gray than that on Marias.I have the shiny rails already that I like pretty well for my mainline. Feb-14-02, 09:29 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " Blvd Bill.First of all nice work...looks very realistic!Have you seen the new ACleanTrack2.ace in the "Misc" section of the train-sim down-load section?(polished rail)I think it would look great with your track texture. What paint program are you using? The reason i ask,is because there are possibly some 3d effects in your paint program that would simulate a weathered wood effect?I use PSP7 and it has that option in the "Gradient" options. These are just sudjestions...I think it looks great just the way it is!I included a pic of the Acleantrack2.ace so you can see what it looks like.

Feb-14-02, 09:38 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " Another Question...I too was working on the ACleanTrack1.ace and when it came to seeing my new creation in the game,I got this "washed-out" affect.I read some-where in a post that the file had to be compressed?...is that true?and if so,how?I planned on using some 3d effects to make the ties look 3-dimensional,kinda raised up off the ballast, and the tie -plates too,but i'm still working on that one.Any help would be appreciated...Thanks Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-15-02, 01:24 AM (EST) 8. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " Wow ,,, I'm glad you guys liked it. So I guess I need to get hot on the repaints huh?
Calembeena, I'll make a repaint using the marias track with the the gray ballast for you.
Daylighter, I'll see what I can do about some darker ties for you on the shiny rails, shouldn't be to hard.
How for SD80MAC, yes I have seen that new Acleantrack2 your talking about, didn't really like the ties all that much. But after i repaint it for Daylighter I might change my mind .. lol.
to answer your other question, yes i'm using PSP7 and in fact i think i was using the option in the "Gradient's". As for them having to be compressed I'm not sure, but it would make sense. However the one I repainted is compressed, I was using TGATools2 and it compressed it for me. Hope that hopes you out.
But to all that are interested, I hope to have your re-paints done and uploaded by the end of the weekend. I will post it when they are finished and uploaded.

Feb-15-02, 10:32 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " BlvdBill...The ACleanTrack2.ace is the railhead texture...it doesn't change the ties. That's why i sudjested it,cause it would make your Tie texture look like it has polished rail...trust me.If you decide to...post a pic of it...please? Hey no problem, you can use it. Here's a shot with the dark ties and shiny rails, your right SD80MAC, it does look pretty cool.
Also I repainted the marias trackbed ,,, Hey Calembeena, is this what you looking for or should the ballast be a lighter gray? let me know bubby!

Feb-16-02, 08:34 PM (EST) 17. "RE: Re-Paint of the Rusty brown track texture " Hey Blvdbill, we're getting there. I reckon just a bit lighter and then I will combine it with one of the ACleanTrack2.ace's and see how close we get. Two more photos on the prototype that might help:
Have been spending my time putting in a scene at Smithburg, WV so you can see how it will fit in. Takes ages to do scenicking: tracklaying is the easy bit!Calembeena Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
