Feb-13-02, 10:08 PM (EST) "Final Progress Report (for now) on CC&O Construction" To the Board of Directors, stockholders, & kibitzersMost of the track gang was just fired for public drunkeness, and the Chief Engineer is in need of a rest where the guys in the white coats work. Somewhere, he heard that a MASOCHIST was someone who beat up on himself, and anyone that builds a railroad this way must qualify. However, after suitable rest, relaxation, imbibing, etc. work will resume south of Erwin, TN.Time has moved on, and it is now the 1960s. Passenger service, never a high priority, has been gone for more than 10 years. Elkhorn City has become a more properous community, and nobody wants to live near the tracks anymore, so the community has pretty much moved across the river. In this first view, a helicopter hovers over the middle of the yard, looking north.Message Areas - "Final Progress Report (for now) on CC&O Construction" – image 1Now, the helicopter moves in close, on the new bridge over the south end of the Wye, and the station is long gone, but there is some kind of a shed to the west of the tracks, and the track gang has left their machinery on the Wye, while imbibing in town.Message Areas - "Final Progress Report (for now) on CC&O Construction" – image 2Next, we take a look at the burgeoning residential area across the river.Message Areas - "Final Progress Report (for now) on CC&O Construction" – image 3And finally, hovering over the "0" milepost, seen as a little speck of red down below, we see that a fast food palace has sprung up at the major crossroads in the bend of the river. These folks are unhappily on the "wrong" side of the river.Message Areas - "Final Progress Report (for now) on CC&O Construction" – image 4Free copies of this route are being mailed out tomorrow to two fellow co-conspirators. Hopefully one of them will be a better artist than I am, and will flesh things out some more.J. H. Sullivan, P.E. (retired) Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
