Feb-12-02, 10:07 AM (EST) "Warning: Diesel Fuel Pumps Eat Your Route When Not Used Properly." I have discovered something when creating the Diesel servicing area in the 30th Street Station switching yard in Philadelphia on my NEC extension route going north. When you place a Diesel pump on your tracks so you can refuel your Diesel engines, you must place it on a section of track where you first placed a US2 fuel station object from the buildings list. You can not simply place it on a vacant track section which does not have this object on top of the track so only the rails are visible above the object. You also can not have more than one diesel fuel pump on an individual track siding in your yard. If you break either of these two rules when placing Deisel fuel pumps, the route editor will eat your route when you tell it to save. It crashes and destroys your work by removing all of your track for miles and rebuilding the track database doesn't fix it. I had this happen to me several times since I was experimenting with the Diesel fuel pumps to figure out why they kept crashing my route and in an effort to discover these rules for placing the Diesel fuel pumps. Fortunately when it happened unexpectedly the first time I had a route backup I had just saved so I just simply had to restore my backup and lost nothing. I am sure this information will come in really handy for everyone else building modern switching yards with servicing and refueling facilities for Diesel engines and hopefully it can save people from losing their routes. As long as you don't violate these rules however the Diesel Fuel Pump objects work great. But if you do violate them it will crash your route and destroy your work. So now Philadelphia will be a nice refueling stop for your Diesel engines on your way to Washington DC. Good luck on your route designing and I hope that this helps everyone in the Train Simulator community. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I have to agree with Lawrence, I have a diesel pump in my route without the fuel station attached. Can't get the thing to refuel any engines, but then I haven't tried to do any research on how pickup objects work yet, I will take care of that much later. It was one of the first objects I placed on the route since the place I started laying track in the route was in the engine facilities of that specific yard. No problems with it so far, many many saves and backups, and lots of track and scenery added.Jeff Leslie

Feb-13-02, 12:07 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Warning: Diesel Fuel Pumps Eat Your Route When Not Used Properly." Really. Every single time I added a diesel pump and did not follow these rules it destroyed my yard. All my tracks disappeared and only the path lines were visible, no tracks or buildings or anything for a mile or two. Maybe it is just my route then or something. Sorry if it was incorrect information. I just ran into the problem and wanted to keep anyone else from having a similar problem and losing their route. This just appears to another of those. It sure would be nice to find out what is causing it....Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-13-02, 11:18 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Warning: Diesel Fuel Pumps Eat Your Route When Not Used Properly." Hi,
Again, I have to agree with Lawrence on the inconsistent behavior. I cannot for the life of me get the Y point switch to work right. I can lay them down but once they are down I can't delete them without a crash, so I end up restoring backups. Apparently I am the only one with this problem. Actually though, considering all that you CAN do with RE, the limitations really aren't that bad once you figure out how to work around them.Jeff Leslie

Some of this has to do with the world tiles and track database getting out of sync, if its a track problem put the cursor over it and note the lat long and track filename and tile ref.Go to the relevant tile in the "world" folder, open it in wordpad find the track piece reference and delete that section.Go back to windows explorer, delete the tdb ans wdb files the open the route and rebuild the database, i think you'll find all your stuff is back where it should be.Sometimes if you have a track joint over a world tile boundary this will cause TDB errors plus the nasty MS message, better to either use a long piece of track or a dynamic piece.
Have one diesel Depot on My route with 6 diesel pumps - 2 on the same road.tim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
