Feb-11-02, 09:55 PM (EST) "New Signal Phenomenon - clearing issue" Just experienced something new, to me anyway. Was running a play test. Was sitting at a "Stop" at the exit end of a passing siding waiting on an oncoming train. All signals displaying properly. Oncoming train passes but the permissive signal that I can see up ahead on the mainline only changes to approach and the absolute signal in front of me protecting the siding exit stayed Red, suggesting that another train was coming down the line - which could have been possible in this test. However, in my impatience I decided to creep up closer to the exit signal while I was waiting to get a better look down the line, as I had stopped a few locos short of the exit signal. As I did this, both the siding exit and the block signal ahead cleared to green. The passing train was already long gone and clear of the passing block by some 5 minutes or more. So now what? I could have sat there all day for nothing. Is there a script that controls the approach distance of a train before enabling the signals? I would have thought it would have enabled from further away than a few loco lengths.Or was this just a one time glitch in my get along?

Feb-12-02, 04:36 PM (EST) 1. "RE: New Signal Phenomenon - clearing issue" I've seen this happen before. I believe it has something to do with the timing of things that make the AI recalculate what signals should be displaying. The tail end of the opposing train passing your position should be one of those things, but I'm guessing something is out of sequence when it does, perhaps the switch isn't thrown yet, and so it keeps your signal red. When you start moving, that is one of the things that causes a recalculation (you might be backing up, which might cause the AI to give an opposing train clearance instead of making it wait). I've seen one spot on Marias Pass 3 in one activity where this happens at Pinnacle. I don't know if moving the signals themselves a little bit closer or further away from the switch would fix this, or if it has something to do with the phases of the moon. But, in general, if you are waiting for a signal for what seems like longer than it should be, try moving your train and things may clear up.
