Feb-06-02, 02:22 AM (EST) "Route Preview ace's for EMRR and PON" I've created two ace pictures for use with the East Metro RR and PortOgden4 routes for MSTS. These can be used as the route logos you see on the left of the screen after you've selected the route.Move the *.ace files into the respective root folder for the route (the Number11.ace file is for EMRR).Edit PortOdgen.trk and edit the line containing the word Graphic to 'Graphic ( "PortOgden4.ace" )'.Also are included 3 *.jpgs that can be used as preview pic's for use with RouteControl. Move these into the routes' root folder also. You'll need to re-pack the route with RC to add the file into the zip that it creates.PortOgden4.ace/jpg is based on thumbv4.jpg by Jim Ward.
Number11.ace is base on a pic in RetroMetro1.pdf by Rich Garber.

Cool! There was a thread a long time ago about how to get your own custom map display in there too, but it was a lot more complicated since it involves wierd transparencies. i'm just trying to make jpeg maps for 5 right now, and it's going rather slow. Some type of diagram might work better.
Nice hackin'!Oh yeah, I didn't have to hack the .trk file, it looks like it's already set to load portogden4.ace, so all you have to do is replace the generic ace file. I didn't try it with the EMRR yet, cuz I can never remember if it's #10 or #11. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-06-02, 03:03 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Route Preview ace's for EMRR and PON" Sniper, Glad you like them! I've been using the ponv4 as my 'learnig route' and just want to say thanks for making such a great public addon for MSTS.Been fooling around with this and that, doing the switching activities (mostly Armstrong and Newcastle) and learning how to change paths, add a breifing ... etc .. all the other stuff that that goes with making a route.Preview pictures are simple 177 x 142 24bit TGAs converted to ace. I used the default alpha of 1 bit (all white) when I ran it thru MakeAce.The ones for RC are 320 x 240 JPGs.The size is the key thing, not so much 16/24/32 bit picture format.Used PSP6 for converting the pictures. It only lets me save out to 24 bit tga format (no 32bit), and still looking on how to add transparency to them. Guess they can be save with a seperate alpha chan, but after loading them into TGATool2, the alpha channel doesn't show up, so I still used the default. Think its just that I dont know psp that well Was looking into the map format and replacement load screen, and will be trying to get screens setup for a test over the weekend. They seem to be 800 x 600, but still haven't looked into the transparency thing yet. Some pics need the alpha, some pics use a special color (like solid green), others, who knows. All I know is MSTS is inconsistent on lots of things ( as we all know too well ! ).Any word on beta5 ? Need any buildings made? Got msts modeler and will be learing to use that soon.Been going thru all my back copies from Model Railroader getting ideas for a layout, and other things.Just so much to learn and do !!!!Thanks again for po&n.

Feb-06-02, 04:34 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Route Preview ace's for EMRR and PON" When you save a 24bit TGA in PSP6 click on SaveAs instead. Click on the Options button and make sure it is saved uncompressed. This will save it as 32bit.. Art Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
