Feb-05-02, 06:09 PM (EST) 1. "RE: can some one make Western New York and Pennsylvania" NO!... sorry, always wanted to say that to one of these posts. Route designers usually build something that is of intrest to them personally. (Like the 'L' for me.) To date, I don't believe I've seen any requests come to fruition, even the NYC subway system which seems to be in high demand. If you are looking for something to be built, the most reliable way to get it done, at least while route building is still such a consuming process, is to break out the editor and begin learning. Afterall, someone who has the passion for the line will have to most initiative to take the time necessary to create an accurate representation of it.-Chris

I know this because I drove through it last summer on my way to Vermont. ( English humor .. sorry )Why don't you take a stab at it. There's a lot of people here that will help get you through the frustrations of route building, and Western NY would be a great area for the DEM routines. oboe Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-11-02, 09:47 AM (EST) 5. "RE: can some one make Western New York and Pennsylvania" I am extending the NEC up to NY and then probably Boston or Albany. I am only up to North Philadelphia so far though. But the NEC goes through southeastern Pennsylvania before going into New Jersey at Trenton. As far as western Pennsylvania or New York, eventually I would like to go west to Harrisburg, Pittsburg, or Altoona. But right now the NEC is a big enough undertaking, so that wouldn't be for a long, long time after the NEC was finished. Sorry, but one route is enough for me right now You can drive through Pennsylvania going from Delaware to New Jersey though when I get my route uploaded as I go. I know it's not the Pennsylvania Mountains and farmland you were looking for and it's more a major city area. But it's still Pennsylvania. Good for both Pennsylvania Railroad and Amtrak equipment Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-11-02, 12:54 PM (EST) 6. "RE: can some one make Western New York and Pennsylvania" Alright, I don't know if I am a sufficient glutton for punishment to endure the sarcasm storm to come, but I very early on extracted the route tiles for the Orient Valley RR from the Red River on the north to Sweetwater Texas on the south (an old Santa Fe Doodlebug route). I quickly realised I would not be able to determine how to scale and orient track layout and was baffled by the DEM integration??? I am an .eng file editor aand a really bad skinner, write a few activities for my own use, but find the Route Editor completely baffling beyond the tile extraction stage. I work with maps all the time, and nothing seems to be scaled or grid in such a way as to determine spatial relationships? I am sure there are (let's not say simple) fathonable ways to accomplish this, but it eludes me. I still have the file extracted, but where do I go next, and how do you determine the layout. It would seem to be a real boon to this editor if the major RR lines were drawn out in the tiles in some form?
At risk and vulnerable, be more kind,
