Feb-03-02, 11:32 AM (EST) "Since all posts gone. Whitefish route question???" Since all the posts are gone I can't search for this probally already answered question. When I start train sim and run the route I get Train world failed initialization error or something to that extent. I followed the directions how it said. Only thing is when I copied the stuff from the USA2 it saoid delete the terrain.ace in the terrtex folder but there isn;t one. But there is that orther file that I renamed. Feb-03-02, 11:04 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Since all posts gone. Whitefish route question???" I had similar problems with the route. There is also a mtn_low.ace in the "Snow"folder that has to be changed also.I used Snypers stuffitv3,or 4(don't remember?)And ran the stuffitv3.bat.The route loaded just fine!If you need the stuffitv3...it's in the utility section in the downloads. Feb-04-02, 11:45 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Since all posts gone. Whitefish route question???" And from what I understand, running Stuffit or ezstuff is overkill for this route, but it does work...albeit at the cost of huge amounts of space. But when you're up at 2:00 am trying to run a new route, who cares? <g>Someone posted a comprehensive fix awhile back, and I was going to try it as soon as I completed my runs. (VIA passenger trains in both directions.) Now I just hope that they'll re-post the fix since the older messages went of to Never-never land.BTW, does anyone know where the Empire Builder station stops would be on this segment? Thanks,Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-04-02, 01:51 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Since all posts gone. Whitefish route question???" Hi,The point is very simple.
When you start building a route, the content of the Template Route is copied to your route.
Well Chuck stated, he only used USA2 as route. The missing files, some tree or so and terrain.ace can not be found in USA2, so they must come from the Template route. And so it is.
The Template route is a subfolder of the Train Simulator folder so on the same level of the Routes Folder, it contains stuff from all the 6 routes. That's the reason that EZStuff works.Even if you have used EZStuff or something simular, you can repair the situation and regain some Mb's.Simply delete the content of the Texture and the TerrTex folder and copy the content of the USA2 and the Template route Texture and TerrTex folder to the appropriate folders of the WhiteFish route. Remember to keep the subfolder structure and put the right files in the Right subfolders!
And do also the same thing with the Shapes folder.
After that you have to rename that monta what so ever .ace file to terrain.ace both in Terrtex and Terrtex\Snow. Remember to rename a copy and keep the original monta what so ever.ace file. At my copy it was missing after the rename trick, so I had to copy it to the original name.
When you don't rename it, the route will use terrain.ace and your route is looking like a golf course. Somewhat silly.Dick van den Hoven

Feb-11-02, 01:43 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Since all posts gone. Whitefish route question???" I used the ezstuffit thingy and the combined.ref files to get the whitefish route to work. But looking at the whitefish folder's contents, it seeeems that there are still files missing. When you look into the usa2 folder, you seeee files in there that are not in sub-folders. What about the whitefish folder? You don't see the files there. And when i run train-sim, the whitefish route doesn't show up. Any Ideas on what i need to do? Feb-12-02, 02:04 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Since all posts gone. Whitefish route question???" Start again. Delete the folder and start again with the installation and don't touch that ezstuff it is not needed for this route.1. Unzip the white_1.zip to a temp folder white_1. Now in the white1 folder unzip Whitefis.zip to a temp folder Whitefish
Copy this folder to the Routes folder of Train Simulator.
2. Unzip the white_2.zip to a temp folder white_2. In this folder unzip white_2.zip to a temp folder white_2. In this folder you find the tiles folder. Copy this folder to the whitefish route folder, you copied in step1.
3. Copy from the Templates folder, one level higher than the routes folder the contents of the terrtex, textures and shapes folder and ALL subfolders to the appropriate folder of the Whitefish route.
4. Do the same with the USA2 route.
5. Read the readme, you should make a copy, NOT RENAME!!, of mntn_low.ace and rename that copy to terrain.ace both in the terrtex and the terrtex\snow folder.
terrain.ace comes from the Template folder, so rename it first to terrain.sav.Now you should be up and running. Dick van den Hoven

Between Whitefish and Sandpoint the only stop is Libby MT.
After Sandpoint it travels to Spokane (going to try to create that section of the route ) and then it splits off as 2 separate trains - to Portland & Seattle. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Thanks for the info!I think I'll go into the Route Editor (shudder) and put the station markers in pending Chuck's next update.Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
