Feb-03-02, 00:40 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Locked Threads?" Happened right after I posted my thread I think we route designers should go on strike. Either this is all my fault or somebody upstairs is listening. Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-03-02, 05:23 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Locked Threads?" I might go out on a limb and assume from your name that you are an oboist. I play both oboe and bassoon in addition to electric guitar and bass guitar. I used to be primarily an oboist but even as rare as oboists are bassoonists are even rarer and I would be requested to play bassoon more than oboe even though I was better at playing the oboe. Just out of curiosity where do you live, and who have you studied with. As for me I live in the Sacramento, CA area and have studied with a variety of teachers including Neil Tatman (University of Arizona), and Andrea Lenz (University of Nevada, Reno). The voice of insanity in a seemingly normal world. Feb-05-02, 08:07 PM (EST) 11. "RE: now unlocked Threads?" Actually ... I was a very early creator of synth analog wave files for the old Z80 and 8008 systems and came up with one of the first passable sawtooth oboe sounds. It got sucked up by a couple of soundcard manufacturers, and eventually sorta led to the nice diesel horns in the sim. I quit playing with wave files, but I love blowing those horns. oboe Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-06-02, 02:25 AM (EST) 13. "RE: now unlocked Threads?" No synthesizer will ever come close in my opinion to replicating the sound of the oboe, but I am biased in this.As for you other guys who like to make cracks about bassoons, here is the bassoon defined from Henry Barbers "A Musician's Dictionary"Bassoon: A relative of the baboon, the buffoon and the bazooka. Easily converted into a periscope. The Itallian term for bassoon is faggoto which doesn't mean what you think it does. And for all of you who are confused at all of this talk about bassoons here is a pic of a Preiser figure playing the bassoon.
I had to have this one because my other main hobby besides trains and music is WW2 re-enacting, unfortunately they didn't have USMC (I was a Marine musician), or US Army ETO (what I re-enact).
