Jan-31-02, 02:54 AM (EST) "Terrain selector window" Some time ago I posted a request for information on resizing the terrain texture window in the route editor.
I received no replies so assumed that,
You could not resize the window
It was to simple an answer to bother with, or
No one was bothered by the fact the window only seemed to support a limited number.
I was frustrated by being limited to only 12 textures so mucked around with it myself and discovered the window could be resized to accommodate as many textures as one wanted.
I had discussed the problem with a far more experienced route builder than myself who had never been able to resize the window and he suggested I post my "discovery" here.
So for those of you who wish more choice in the window here it is.Fill the existing window, 12 total if I remember.
Load in one more and you will notice the pointer changes to a little left/right arrow.
Use this to resize the window. If all works you can have as many textures to choose from as you like. Just remember to close this window before doing regular saves as the window will drop all textures back to the original limit.
After saving re open the window and they should all still be there and are scrolled through as normal by the Q key.
Hope this of help to someone.

Or, perhaps, now one knew the answer to your question? I have found that most people on this forum only reply if they have the answer. No sense wasting bandwidth. Like I just did. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-31-02, 10:32 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Terrain selector window" I have found that even though the mouse pointer does not change shape, I can resize the window at any time by "grabbing" an edge and dragging to a new size..

Jan-31-02, 10:58 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Terrain selector window" Are you using more than 12 terrain textures on one tile (blue square)? My terrain texture window only shows the textures I am using on the tile I am currently working on. Then when I move to another tile, the window show a different selection of textures. How does using so many textures effect frame rates? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

As far as I know you can only place 1 texture at a time in each high lighted square.
As I textured my route I found I wanted to use a variety of textures but was originally limited in choice to the number loaded into the window, and, with out knowing how to resize this window could not load in more or have a larger choice.
Also, my window does not change as I move to another tile. The window, or selection, does not change until I use the Q key?

Feb-01-02, 11:14 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Terrain selector window" Yes you can only place one texture in a small black square. What I was trying to say is that whenever I move from one large blue square ("tile" that is then divided into 64? small black squaes) to another, the selection of textures changes in my terrain texture window to match my choices for that tile (large blue square). That is why I was surprised that you needed so many textures at the same time in your selection window. Twelve textures seems like a lot to use on one large blue square. Feb-01-02, 12:26 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Terrain selector window" 12 textures is plenty if you are not using custom textures! I have a beach that uses 6 by itself, a cut that has 2, a small stream and pond on another, etc.Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I create a bitmap image of what I want, I make them 512 square, but 256 will work fine too, just depends on how much detail you want. Use the makeace tool to convert your bitmap then place it in the route/terrtex folder. The beach and heavy rock are shown in the reduced to 256 square (the rocks are crushed gravel I photographed with my digital camera, but could be done on a scanner too). I made a transition piece to move the beach out, and an end piece, which can be mirrored when placing the terrain textures so you only need one end! The cut is on a separate terrain file. There are several threads on doing terrain textures in the route forum.I also have surf crashing and seagulls randomly squawking!Steve Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
