Jan-26-02, 12:25 PM (EST) "Maps, Topo USA VS USGS Topo maps" Both are very usefull, however, I started a route, working from Topo USA, and, looking at photos, found some poor placement. I went to the Terraserver site, http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=12&T=2&X=549&Y=6460&Z=10&W=2 (this map is for South Bend WA), and saw that road placement, siding, etc. were much more detailed on the USGS maps. The topos from Terraserver are a free download, and you can go back and forth between these and aerial photos. Here's a comparison of the same area and roughly the same magnification.Message Areas - "Maps, Topo USA VS USGS Topo maps" – image 1 I still use Topo USA for general placement and to get an idea of the 3D landforms, as it allows a 3D view. Also, with a 56k connection, Topo USA on CD is much faster to load! Hope this helps some route builders.Steve Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Maps, Topo USA VS USGS Topo maps" Someone already pointed this out, but I would like to post the information with Steve's information so that future searches many find these informational nuggets together. The markers within the Route Editor seem to follow the same path placement as topo USA which I found to be inaccurate in many cases. It depends on how close to the prototype you want to build your route.Boomer Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
