Jan-25-02, 08:44 AM (EST) "Another builder newbie question...." Does anyone know if there are published guidelines for the limits of the sim as far as maximum miles of track, number of tiles / objects / etc ??My long-term goal after I learn the basics is a model-railroading type of never-ending additions to the NEC. Specifically, Phila-Reading-Harrisburg-Allentown lines. This would provide an infinite number of exploration, activity, and creative opportunities.Provided of course that the sim can handle that type of expansion. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Jan-25-02, 09:00 AM (EST) 1. "RE: Another builder newbie question...." Well, from my understanding I think the limitations are in the number of tracks and scenery items that you can have per tile. Not in the number of tiles that you can have in a route. That being the case I would see no reason why you couldn't add on to the NEC extension I am already working on that is already in the works. I would love to be able to drive out to Harrisburg and in that area in general. Being from Philadelphia and having gone to Penn State University for my undergraduate degrees I know that this area has some beautiful scenery. There are some really beautiful farms in the Lancaster area and the area just above Harrisburg where the rail lines enter the mountains and run along the Susquehana River and Rt. 322 is breathtaking. One question, if I remember right the route runs through Paradise PA. If so do you plan to include the short Strassburg Railroad that runs into the line. It would be great to have an excuse to run some steam trains among modern diesels. Let me know if you decide to do this route and if you want to extend your route off of my NEC extension. I look forward to hearing more about this project Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I really saw it more as a hobby kind of thing - add a little at a time when I feel more like creating than driving.Having said that, however, I would like to include both Strasburg and the (now defunct) BM&R to run those steamers. Heck, the whole thing could be 1940's. Drive off the mainline NEC, and go back in time!So many ideas, so little time!

Jan-25-02, 11:31 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Another builder newbie question...." When you place anything on the route, the corresponding world file is either created (for a first time) or added to. It has been found that if that file exceeds 700-800 K, weird things start happening. That is the only limitation that I know of, from the Sim side. However, from the user side, it depends on the computer system the user has. So there are limitations there. However, even a low end computer can run on a route that is many hundreds of miles long without any problems--except some scenery may have to be filtered out.Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
