Jan-24-02, 09:46 PM (EST) "Ashland yard continues to be a hair losing experience" Last night I thought I had the problem with this yard licked. Tonight I started re-laying the yard, with constant testing. Once again I encountered computer crash every time I tried to reverse the locomotive. Following is the link to the yard trackage I had laid. The top track off of the first turnout through the straight section is missing. With the first turnout aligned for the straight or diverging tracks, the locomotive will run in reverse all the way up the ladder, or through the straight section of the turnout. If I throw one of the yard tracks with turnouts connecting the other end, the computer crashes, sometimes with the MSTS "Send Report" message, and sometimes only a cold boot will unlock it. Here is the link of the tracks, and the layout from the Activity editor. http://members.aol.com/jlzeman1986/AshlandYardProblem1http://members.aol.com/jlzeman1986/AshlandYardProblem2I'm desperate here. I've tried eliminating the two wyes on the route, and there is no change. This will be a major bummer is I can't get this double-ended yard to work. The yard trackage consists of 10 degree sissor switches, and 250m straight tracks. Not a dynamic track in the bunch. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance.

"RE: Ashland yard continues to be a hair losing experience" Out of desperation, I tried tying the other end of the yard into the main line down into Ashland, which isn't prototypically correct. Problem solved. Now all I have to do is figure out a way to hide that track, as it will be a very steep grade. The other end of the Ashland ore yard went out on a trestle to the Ore dock, and at the end of the yard was appx. 15 feet higher than the main line down into Ashland. Oh well, sacrifices have to be made, unless anybody else has any ideas on how to cheat the sim.
regards,

By the way, if you break the track connection at the end that connects to the main at Ashland does the problem come back? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

You are commiting a route editor no-no. When you lay a switch from the diverging end, even if you haven't decided on how you're going to continue, ALWAYS connect a temporary section of 10 meter straight (or whatever is handy) to the base of the switch. NEVER leave the base of the switch unconnected. The path tracer is looking for the next blue pole for the end-of-path derailment point whenever you throw a switch that creates a new path. Since there is no blue pole beyond the red pole that marks the point, the game has a spaz attack. Note that a switch always has two blue poles at the straight and curved ends, so that's not a problem, but there is no blue pole at the base, and that's the problem. Easily fixed by connecting a piece of track that does have a blue pole. Any place where the track ends should have a blue pole, if you have a red pole with no blue pole beyond it, it will lock up.

I was unable t9 see the screenshots you had posted, but I suspected the same thing that Sniper did. That should fix your problem.Nick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
