Jan-22-02, 07:40 PM (EST) "Seeking advice from those that have been there" A while back I posted a problem I was having when I added a yard to my route. Not sure what was causing that weidness, but suffice it say dumping the entire yard and rebuilding it corrected the original problem of more than 31 points/switches causing problems. But now with the rebuilt yard, a new problem has developed. With most of the switches in place, you can enter the yard and navigate around the various tracks. But eventually, manually changing the direction of a switch will crash the sim. Not always the same switch, and it can be the first time or the 20th time, never happens at the same place twice. I don't get the classic 'Send Info to MS' window, just a dialog that says something went wrong, if I was working on something it will be lost, yada yada yada, and that's all folks.
Below is a capture of the yard from the AE showing all points in place so far. My question to those that have been in the route business a while is, 'is this too complicated or too much variable trackage in a close area?' The machine I'm using has 768 mb of ram, about 16 gb free disk space, GForce video w/32mb and a 1gh proc. My first thoughts are a memory issue, but I would think 768mb would be sufficient. Any thoughts and/or alcoholic beveridges would be appreciated!Message Areas - "Seeking advice from those that have been there" – image 1 Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/3166.html
look to see if you have a switch with an unconnected base, or two switches connected base-to-base. Mister Path Tracer likes to see those blue poles, so if you change a switch, he traces out the new path, and he sees a red pole with no blue pole beyond it, or two red poles together, he pitches a hissy fit. Jan-22-02, 08:48 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Seeking advice from those that have been there" Thank you, Mr. Sniper, sir. As hopeful as I was that I'd find an open point or an end-to-end, it doesn't look like any of the above are present. I just went into the sim twice... first time I was able to last 8 minutes and 17 manual switch changes before it bombed. Rebooted and went in again, same consist, followed the same route using the same switch maneuvers as the previous session. This time the 2nd switch I threw locked it at about a minute into it. I'm leaning more and more to applying the Budweiser principal to this thing. Thanks for the reply! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Does it keep crashing when you are running in a particular direction, ie. only north or only south, etc.? I ran into a similar problem on my route where everytime I crossed a switch heading south into 30th Street Station in Philadelphia from the North Philadelphia station the Train-Simulator program would just completely lock up. It happened just after I had finished adding all of the bridges that the tracks cross on the route and it took me forever to figure out how to fix it. First I tried to rebuild the track database using the Route Editor several times. I would then exit the route editor and run on the route. It still crashed every single time. What finally worked was this. I went into the Route Editor and rebuilt the Track Database again. Then I ran a train backwards going north from 30th Street Station to the North Philadelphia station crossing over the switch that kept crashing the program at the North Philadelphia station. At the station I put the reverser into forward and ran the train south to the 30th Street Station yard again and it crossed the switch with no problem. I exited out of Train Simulator, went back into it, and then ran a train south from the North Philadelphia station into 30th Street Station to confirm that it was indeed fixed. It has worked fine since. Anyway, you might want to try doing this. Rebuild the track database and then run a full train over each of the tracks in your yard. Going in reverse first driving in the opposite direction that you were going and then going forward over the same section for each and every section. I don't know if Train Simulator checks the track database or what as you drive your trains. But it worked for me and corrected the problems I was having. I hope that this helps you PS. Another thing I noticed is sometimes you can have a length of track that overlaps or where two parallel tracks were too close to each other and causing it to crash. I had that problem in the 30th Street Station switching yard . I have also had it occur where I had a section of track that overlapped into a switch, yet appeared complete having a complete white path line and everything. I don't think this is the problem though since you have it happening in different locations at different times. I would try my other suggestion first. If that doesn't work though you could always look for any overlapping track sections that you might have. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
