Jan-21-02, 08:47 PM (EST) "HELP - I can't get rid of these poles !!!" I have the entire Soo Ashland ore yard laid, and through testing I constantly derail at one of the turnouts. Some background is in order. I first laid this turnout with a double-slip switch. The double slip switch constantly derailed. I deleted it, replaced it with a 10 degree manual sissor, and progressed on with track laying. Modification required that the escape track now go all the way up to the top of the ladder. When I constantly got derails, I deleted the two switches and discovered the poles remaining with no track object as shown. How the heck do I get rid of this? Any help would be greatly appreciated. regards,
Jerry Zeman

Have you hit the W key to see if it is underground? Most of the double ended sidings I put down require a piece of dynamic track on one end since they very rarely line up exactly right. It takes some fiddling to get rid of the blue poles

Not only did I hit the "W" key, I drilled looking for it. I right clicked on one of the wire frame intersects in the area and lowered the terrain by appx. 5 meters, and then the poles were just hanging in mid air. regards,

Jan-22-02, 09:38 AM (EST) 4. "RE: HELP - I can't get rid of these poles !!!" There was a solution brought up a long time ago about this so forgive me for not being able to be more helpful in this regard. If I remember correctly you need to isolate the coordinates of the piece and then go into the world tile and find the offending piece at the same or close coordinates and delete it. Back up your route of course before doing so. I'm pretty sure that was what the fix was. You might want to try a search on poles. I have the same problem in my East Metro route. There's a switch out in the middle of nowhere that I would have liked to gotten rid of. Only the poles are there. By the time this solution came up I was too far gone to give it a try.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-22-02, 09:56 AM (EST) 5. "RE: HELP - I can't get rid of these poles !!!" Sounds like you forgot to put in the end piece for the slip. If correctly placed it should cancel out all the blue poles inside the slip. There's a picture included with XTracks of where it should be placed. You might need to try it a few times and/or turn it around using the 'T'-key. I hope to have a better solution available in the next XTracks.Concerning deleting offending track sections that only shows as blue poles in the route editor. Find out which tile it is and the coordinates in that tile, it does help if you know the type of track also (usually dynamic track).
Open your routes world folder and find the w-file for the tile with offending track. Open the file and search dyntrack if dynamic or trackobj if any other type of track section. For each entry you find (and you might have many entries in the file if there's a yard nearby) check the position to see if it seems to be the one your looking for. If it's a dynamic track the track sections will look all weird for it which is an additional clue that you've located it. When you've found the right track delete the whole entry and rebuild your track database. Oh, and make a backup before doing anything else just in case you accidentally screw things up.

Jan-22-02, 04:30 PM (EST) 6. "RE: HELP - I can't get rid of these poles !!!" Wow!! That's great.
I had a blue pole I couldn't get rid of, but the tricks posted here did the job.
It was kind of confusing, at first, trying to figure out which coodinates to go by. Even then, I had to chose between 4 entries.
I got lucky. Guessed right the first time.
Thanks a bunch.

Jan-24-02, 00:18 AM (EST) 7. "RE: HELP - I can't get rid of these poles !!!" OK, so here is the post mortem on this problem.1. After deleting all of the track sections in the yard, except the tracks off of the escape track at the top of the ladder, test engines STILL crashed the computer when I tried to reverse. After deleting all tracks attached to the escape switch on the main line, the problem went away, with the poles out in the yard ladder still visible. 2. Rebuilding the track database got rid of the blue poles. 3. The conclusion I reached is I had two dynamic track pieces tied together from opposite ends, and I don't think MSTS likes that. 4. I will definitely be doing more track testing, expecially when laying yard tracks. It will increase production time, but will save a whole lot of pain in the long run. Besides, thats why I bought the damn simulator in the first place 5. When Okrasa puts a read-me file in the X-tracks file, READ IT! I'm going to have another kick at the cat a give it a try as I rebuild the Ashland Ore yard. That double slip looks to cool to leave out. 6. This forum is great. Oskrasa and Rich are Gods. I grovel at your feet. I'm not worthy. Thanks a bunch for steering me in the right direction.7. This has been a great learning experience. A time consuming. painful experience, but a learning experience none the less. What I learned about the world tile files will definitely come in handy at some future time. It is time to get some sleep. At least now I won't be seeing blue poles in my dreams. I gotta get a life. My wife thinks I'm nuts spending the time I did trying to figure this out.
regards,
