Jan-20-02, 01:06 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Subways." Read any or all posts by jeffmorris. He is making a NYC subway, or part of it anyhow. It will be a while though as he has to manually with TSM make each track section over and make platforms etc for underground. If you want a quick and dirty subway just lay some rails in a trench, fill it with water, and there's your subway. You can't just use the standard tunnels as they a)don't look right and b)defaultly have too few types to be useful for subways c)no subwayesque platforms, not even the generic platform is quite right though close.-Andy

Jan-20-02, 06:31 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Subways." I'm the one working on NYCTA subway routes. I had to create new track sections with tunnels and stations. The only problem is that I can't create new track switches with tunnels so I had to use "empty" tunnels with short track sections to enclose switchwork. I had to build most of the subway routes on ground level instead of underground because of the way the Route Editor works, cutting opencuts and/or raising the ground to "elevated" tracks while laying track. Jan-20-02, 10:16 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Subways." The Chicago EL system has a route with a good "subway" feel to it. It is underground with station to the most the MSTS will allow. I would like to see MSTS come out with a subway route as the traffic levels there are nothing like a RR. Only on a transit system you have trains every 2 - 3 minutes

Feb-02-02, 05:59 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Subways." In my current attempt to revive the 'L' I have made provisions for a true underground subway, but have yet to attempt that part of it. I am trying to, as I did the first time, use as many default MSTS parts as possible, there are a few decent looking parts that would make a box type station like many NYCTA subway stations are, but don't look as good as a good 1/2 cut tunnel station would, like the Chicago City subways are.Quick Trivia: The city of Chicago actually owns the tunnels/stations and track of the citys downtown subways and makes provisions for the CTA to use them. (They also did the same for the CTA's predecessor the Chicago Rapid Transit Company.)Source Chicago-L.org
