>Sirshuntalot Here are three things that should help:
1) Do a search on the forum to find related topics about laying tracks. This will give you the latest and greatest information, tips and tricks.
2) Take a look at the "help" section in MSTS Route Editor. Print it out and take a look at it. I noticed too late that some of my questions were contained in there. You may have done this already, however just wanted to point it out.
3) Consider buying the Route Building Guide. Not just for laying tracks but for a few reasons like: what steps need to be taken that will make sure you have less problems later in the route building process and also for other topics you may have questions on later. You can get the guide at: http://www.trainsimulatorworld.com. It is $15.00.If buy reviewing the above you still have questions, feel free to post a message to the list. Everyone here has been helpful and nice. From my experiences.I hope this helps.

Sounds like a good book, but then I haven't seen any ones comments about it here on this list.Zack Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

>ZackJust so I make sure I answer your question correctly. Are you asking about the retail book: "Sybex's Microsoft Train Simulator Strategy Guide" or the Abacus e-book "Step by Step Guide to
Route Building for Microsoft Train Simulator" found at: http://www.trainsimulatorworld.com/? The first one I have heard a few good comments on and that it does give a pretty good job on telling how to use the editors. It is more a complete strategy book on the routes, the game and then the editors. I am not sure how much information is contained in the book about the editors. I really can't comment completely on the book, because I don't have it. I can comment on the e-book from Abacus and I can say that it is by far the best route building guide that there is right now. It is getting a little bit outdated because since there are so many people designing for MSTS that they are figuring ways to do things better, easier or making the tools to do it. So, the what I would do is definately get the Abacus e-book and then look at the forums for new information on subjects that you are working on with your route.Hope this helps.

Jan-21-02, 05:59 PM (EST) 4. "RE: could somebody do a "dummies guide to laying track please?" LAST EDITED ON Jan-21-02 AT 06:14 PM (EST)LAST EDITED ON Jan-21-02 AT 06:07 PM (EST)Just to add a little to this, I have both books.
The "Sybex" book got me started with the editors. It's basic, bare bones, editing. It mainly deals with the routes that come packeged, as mentioned above.
On the other hand, Mike Vones guide at Abacus is far more detaled. He guides you, easily, through building a starter route.
It's well worth the money. At 15 bucks for Mikes, and $19.95 (if I remember right) for the "Sybex" book, it shouldn't be a hard choice.
After you get used to the route editor, and feel a little more comfortable in it, you'll want to try DEMing.
One thing to remember: SAVE OFTEN! If the action on the screen starts to change: SAVE! If you have less than 512mg ram, SAVE MORE OFTEN!
You'll get used to it. The editor is "system resource hungry" and it likes to be fed.
Above all, HAVE FUN!

It's a very well written tutorial, and well worth the money (about $15 as I recall). That's the only tutorial out there as far as I know, but it's a good one.
