Jan-19-02, 00:10 AM (EST) "Unexpected Derailment" Hi everybody!I am building a small route, only about 144 tiles, but the trains always derail at a certain point. I have a curved section of track, which is joined, using the tools in the Route Editor with a section of Dynamic Track. Where the Dynamic Track meets the curve my trains derail. The elevation/rotation of both peices is 0. The Track DB Line continues throughout the whole of the track. And the two peices of rail are joined together very closely. Also when I load my route I get an error about not loading the track database, could this be the problem?Thank you for any suggestions about fixing this problem,kwk100 Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-19-02, 00:31 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Unexpected Derailment" Well the only answer I could think of for the dynamic track is replace it with a section... but then I only use Dynamic track as a last resort when filling in straight gaps in yards or crossovers. Really the perfect route would use not one piece of dynamic track as it's nothing but trouble and should be eliminated. Of course, I'm the sort of person who if he ever built a model RR would use all snap together track that had the roadbed already on it because speed is always more important than accuracy and prototype to me is a dirty word akin with anal retentive. The other problem is much easier to solve (hopefully). When you start the route editor with that route just check the advanced options and it will rebuild the track database. You may or may not need to delete the original track database file first to make it work right. I've had it work without deleting it, and had it not work without deleting it. I think it depends on the nature of the problem. Remember roads are considered part of the track database and in fact every time i had to rebuild the databse it was because of some road alteration I made.-Andy

Jan-19-02, 00:57 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Unexpected Derailment" The only other thing I could think of would be if the dynamic track has too much overlap, sometimes that looks like a smooth join, the blue pole disappears, but it's a rough section. Just so you know, even with a rough section it won't derail if you raise the speed limit, cuz derailments are tied into speed vs speed limit ratio. Jan-21-02, 09:04 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Unexpected Derailment" I had the same problem, including the error message, in one version of my route. Got to a point where the track went one way and the train went another. This best I could guess was that one of the two track files became corrupted. I "fixed it" by replacing the entire route with my last decent backup copy and rebuilding the track. I find this to be quicker than trying to delve into the quirks of MSTS. Jan-21-02, 09:51 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Unexpected Derailment" Okay, thanks for the help. Now I have a bigger problem. I am still getting the error about the track database, when I try to play the route, but it continues to load until the little yellow bars at the bottom of the screen (indicating percent of the route loaded) just stop, and then the game freezes requiring an Alt-Ctrl-Del to get back to windows ME (I can still edit the route with no problems)?kwk100 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-21-02, 10:25 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Unexpected Derailment" Well if you get the same error in the editors just check the advanced options and it will rebuild the track database. You may need to delete the old tdb file or you may not. I've had it work and not work both with and not with deleting. Try it without deleting first and if that doesn't work, then with deleting. This fixes 90% of track database (and road database since it's really the same thing) errors.-Andy

Jan-22-02, 01:23 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Unexpected Derailment" Hi again, with more problems!!!!!!!!!!!Okay, I have done that just need to recreate my activity so I can play the game now. Here is a big problem when I start the route editor, up at the top of the screen the little latitude and longuitude readings keep going up and up and up. I can't stop it from doing this. I did have to use the geometry extrator to add more tiles to the route (could this be my problem) but after I did that I changed the start tile to one with a blue cross on it, saved and exited the geometry extractor but the camera is still going to who knows where?kwk100 Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
