Hi Train Sim Partners:
Why is it that when I build my Route and I use the TRACK OBJECT placement, I put down a forest ( the RED square box, in it it says FOREST), for example "Forest JP1 tree 1" , and it does not show up on the "Drive a Train" part of the Simulation. Why don't the Tree or Tree's show up when I run the route? The train runs OK. I hope this makes since. I would appreciate any help in this problem... Thank You

Jan-18-02, 10:17 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Vegetation Sences" Have you extended the forest and set the density of the trees per km? You have to do that for more than the one tree to show. Now, I have a question: How do you get more than the one forest object? I created a route base and all you get is the ugly JP forest option. I look in other routes via the route editor and see many different forest objects each with a different tree assigned. How do you do this? I searched the forum but didn't find anything. Thanks for any help. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Vegetation Sences" LAST EDITED ON Jan-18-02 AT 10:55 PM (EST)I just looked at the forest marker, right clicking on it gives you the window to edit the numbers for density. It defaults to 50 trees per square mile, which ain't much of a "forest", so I usually type in a number from 200 to 9000 depending on how dense I want it. The detail level defaults to zero, meaning it should always show up in the sim. The trees, I mean, not the markers, which aren't supposed to show in the sim.
The geo extractor takes all it's objects from the \template folder, it's kept deliberately anemic for small size. Using one of the combined reference files, like combstuff.zip from the utilities section, will give you more objects, but not more things like signals and forest regions. Forest regions are in the forest.dat file for each route, and the extractor only gives you one tree. If you copy all the shapes and textures from USA1, for example, then copy and rename the ref file, that will give you all the static objects from USA1. If you also copy all the files ending with .dat, including forests.dat, that will give you the other objects, including the different forests.
Here's a link to a beta package:
http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=3058&forum=DCForumID6&omm=0
Note that the ref file for this has not been thoroughly tested, which is why it's still in beta. The forest.dat file in the package has been completely tested tho, so if you copy all the vegetation shapes and textures from all six routes (or run the batch file, which will give you everything), and overwrite the forest.dat file in your route with this one, you'll get something like 30 different forest regions. "RE: Vegetation Sences" I have no idea what the Forest objects detail setting is offhand but you might try checking to be sure if your video options are all dialed up to max in sim. Sorry if that's patronizing, but it's the easiest potential solution I can think of so I figure start with the easiest.-Andy
