Jan-15-02, 08:35 AM (EST) "UK Signals Old for New and New for Old" Some excellent freeware routes have been designed but for my own personal use not for upload I would like occasionally to change the signalling from modern to semaphore and vice versa to create a more authentic scene particularly where I'm using steam particularly as I'm not yet clever enough to make my own routes. I know some uploads are already availbable to change for example level-crossings from gate to barrier so it would appear people are already doing something this. If for example I wanted the old semaphores on a modern route would I just substitute the shapes and textures from for example the default Settle/Carlisle, if so which ones, or are there changes required to config files as well. If anyone has any ideas/instructions I would be grateful.
ThanksChris

Jan-15-02, 01:43 PM (EST) 1. "RE: UK Signals Old for New and New for Old" What you're asking is not easy, because the shapes and textures for the signals are in the \world files, the logic is in the sigcfg.dat and sigscr.dat files, the placement and linking is in the TDB and the \Tiles\*y.raw files. So there might be some genius that could write a magic bullet that would change all that, but it's unlikely.
The only way to do what you want right now would be to;
1. Make a map of the entire route, with the location and linkages of every signal. Open it in the route editor, delete all the signals. Replace the sigcfg.dat and sigscr.dat files in the root of the route. Open the route editor again, and following the map put the new signals where the old ones were.
2. Slightly easier, make or steal a compiled sigscr.dat and sigcfg.dat set that contains both the signals that are already on the route, and the signals you want to replace them with. Open up the route in the editor, start at one end of the line, replace each signal as you come to it.
Note that this might cause problems too, if the signal logic and sequencing is different for the signals you're using for replacements, they wouldn't work the same way, the traffic would get all screwed up, and you would have to add, move, delete signals in certain places, and/or hack the sigcfg.dat file to change the parameters of the new signals.
Good luck, you'll need it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: UK Signals Old for New and New for Old" if you are using the fictional ecml route it uses the freeware uk 4aspect signal kit from the former trainsimfiles and has the default semaphores on board too so help yourself to my edited file if you have the route, if not email me and i'll send you the sigscr and sigcfg files.tim090361@aol.comtim Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-15-02, 04:48 PM (EST) 4. "RE: UK Signals Old for New and New for Old" TimThanks for the offer of your files but I think I might be getting out of my league here so I will let sleeping dogs lie. By the way, your FECML Route is great (I'm still working with version 3 at the moment) and have ordered te CD version from UKtrainsim as I couldn't face trying to download the files again on my two bits of string and an elastic band By the way, how much of the route (fictional or otherwise) do you intend to build? (KX to Edinburgh?). I'm based near York and make a few business trips north and south. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-15-02, 04:40 PM (EST) 3. "RE: UK Signals Old for New and New for Old" SniperThanks. After posting this message I had a look tonight at a couple of the signal cfg files for S&C and another route with new signalling and pretty much came to a similar conclusion (i.e this looks hard and likely to end in tears). Thanks for taking the time to explain though.Chris Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-15-02, 05:54 PM (EST) 5. "RE: UK Signals Old for New and New for Old" Hell, I'm just trying to add signals to a route that doesn't have any, and trying to get them to work the way I want has me sitting in a puddle of tears up to my ankles. I got a good feel for the problems in doing what you want, because I have replaced the two DAT files with 3rd party add-on compiled DAT files that already included both of the signal types I wanted, but found that I had to edit the scripts anyway to get the signals to do what I want. Now the tears are past my knees, any minute now my keyboard is gonna be flooded, and when that happens it'll short out and then wh********* ********BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT! *pop* Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
