Jan-15-02, 05:31 AM (EST) "Grain Tower" OK with the help of Train Sim Molder I've finally have gotten my Grain Tower into the game. And even have a loading shed to go with it! Here are a couple of pics.Message Areas - "Grain Tower" – image 1
Message Areas - "Grain Tower" – image 2I'll complete documentation and uploaded it to Train-Sim in the next couple of days. I'll post back here when that task is complete. This is tower is part of a route I've been more working on, the route sat in limbo until recently. Even though I've also made two other simpler buildings, and have to make at over a dozen bulk commodity towers (including flour mills, fertilizer and cement) left to build, among hundreds of other custom buildings, I'm not going to make many more buildings until my tracks and roads are completely laid. I'm also not going to release the route until it's mostly complete, including several key buildings and bridges. A few of those I will make avaible prior to the route's release. This route will have a little running, but will focus mainly on industry and yard switching (including some street running switching lines that create a maze through a industrial area. Imagine my Columbia Falls local activity on steriods. BTW, thanks to all the praise you've given me about that activity, I still find it fun to play, and that's even after having spent several days perfecting the timing of the AI trains. Right now I'm concetrating my MSTS efforts to this new route, but it won't be avaible anytime soon, as there are lots of buildings, bridges, and track left to make. For serious route builders, here are the tools that have proved invaluable!1. Delorme's Topo USA ver 3.0 for making a highly customized marker file to mark out not only track locations, but over passes, underpasses, major road intersections, and a whole variety of stuff.2. JohnCS's DEM converter, a route would not of even been fesible without that handy tool. Thank you very much John, and I look forward to seeing those distant mountains (hopefully)3. Olympus D-490 2.1 megapixel camera, great for snapping photos of buildings, and then later using the photos to scale a model and texture it using Corel Draw suite 7 (including the key componet, Corel's photo-paint (much more versitle than Adobe's photoshop)4. Various Railroad employees for furnishing yard schematics and other info.5. Train Sim Modeler (although it could use a few extra features, and fix a couple problems that I found and worte them about)6. And this forum! Thanks for all you guy's efforts at making a better game! Very similar to a grain elevator in Akron, OH that I need to model for my route, here is a pic of the prototype...Message Areas - "Grain Tower" – image 3 Here is another pic of the same elevator after they turned it into a hotel, notice in the background the hi-rise portion of the old elevator looks just like yours...Message Areas - "Grain Tower" – image 4As a side note, the rooms in the hotel are round, with walls a foot thick solid concrete. You can bang the bed up against the wall all night long and nobody will hear you......Jeff Leslie
