"RE: Tile file format" You should be able to find lots of useful information about the format of the different tile filetypes by doing a search on this topic in this forum. I myself have done research on the tile format too, but nowadays I am only creating custom buildings and stations for my route.
Raymond.

I have tried "tile file format", and do get a lot of hits - but none seem to actually discuss the format itself.Stephen

"RE: Tile file format" I've just uploaded again a doc that i put together a while back with some info on the t file contents - you can find it at:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/User_files/3c435d055b3289c2.zip there has been a lot of info here about the other files - unfortunately, i don't know any of the threads - but i'm sure that there's a few people around who can jump in with that.CheersDave C Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-14-02, 06:03 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Tile file format" Ya, the last time we "jumped in," it almost turned into a no-holds-barred WWF fight! Now to answer the original question. To my knowledge, there is no single document which outlines everything about all the tile formats--including in my possession. If you do a search in the Route Forum, using "JohnCS" or "deanville" as your search terms, and be sure to check the Archive checkbox, you will be able to ferret out the information. Be prepared, it will take you several hours to get the information. Then it will take several more to comprehend the information (probably). However, what you will find is only information on the tiles---but, Lawrence, that is what I wanted??? What do you mean???To my knowledge, there is NO discussion on the lo_tiles format! What are the lo_tiles, Lawrence? They are the tiles that make the "distant" mountains appear on a route. And they *do* make a difference!Besides Microsoft and KUJU, there is only one person who I know of who has that information, and he is not talking at this time (which is a-okay with me)! (And, no it is not me, or should that be "I"?)Lawrence Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-15-02, 11:17 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Tile file format" The lo_tile format is remarkably like the regular tile format with all the same record headers, etc. Thanks for the file on the regular file format. It was extremely informative. In fact, the lo_tile format is almost exactly like the regular format, except it covers a larger area and the files are smaller (i.e. less data). You can create the lo_tiles with the geography extractor, but filling them in with real elevation data is not so easy (at this time). Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-15-02, 11:26 PM (EST) 8. "RE: Tile file format" it would be Very nice if someone actually cracked the Lo-tile Mystery... I've Emailed Microsoft a few times about that Topic and didn't get a Response at all (6 Emails in 5 weeks) not even an Auto ResponseNice of Microsoft right?Bob... Jan-15-02, 11:31 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Tile file format" Ummm.....I've announced previously that I have working lo_tiles. It is currently being tested by Lawrence Kellie, the Canadian Laggan Sub group, & 3DTrains. A new version of DEMEX will be comming very shortly, though some of the details on that one may not please some here...... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Tile file format" LAST EDITED ON Jan-16-02 AT 00:53 AM (EST)BTW, here is the thread that had a lot to do with the development of DEMEX. about 2/3rds of the way down you will spot some black and white square images, that is where I explained some of the basic uses for the files and differences between regular and lo_tiles. Lots of intresting reading there.http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=263&forum=DCForumID6&archive=yesTed curphey

http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=263&forum=DCForumID6&archive=yes";Ted, thanks - I had just found that using Lawrance's suggested search words. It is a big one! It has a lot of info, though, and I thought I would print it out - nope, sorry, not 52 pages <hehe>. I will go through it, pick out the stuff that looks important - should trim it down a bit.One question on the xyz file DemEx uses - is there a specific order in the records, or does it just work on what it gets, when it gets it? Thanks,Stephen

Jan-16-02, 04:17 AM (EST) 13. "RE: Tile file format" I've never have looked at a xyz file, so couldn't tell you much there. While I did take computer programming classes in High School, I'm really a CAD/CAM person. While I understand floating pointers and such to a point, I'm much more at home engineering out structures and parts.Ted Curphey

Jan-16-02, 06:19 PM (EST) 14. "RE: Tile file format" LAST EDITED ON Jan-16-02 AT 06:25 PM (EST)I've done a practice route in which I merged tiles (2x2) into a single tile in the RGE and then applied the same xyz data as used in another practice route of the same area only the smaller individual tiles, using demex, to these tiles and got very similar results as far as terrain is concerned. Is this germain to the Lo_tiles issue or am I off course on this?I don't know what impact this might have on the placement of objects as yet, though laying track has not been a problem Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-22-02, 09:21 AM (EST) 15. "RE: Tile file format" Just for the record,Dave C (the author of TSTools) published the best spec. doc. that I've seen on regular .t file formats some time back. This did not cover Lo-Tiles. I don't know of anyone (other than JohnCS) who has an understanding of these. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
