If you're just having problems getting the curves in dynamic track to line up correctly you can use 10 left and 10 right switches with the corresponding endpoints and a 10 wye to connect them. That way the only piece of dynamic track is one straight section to fill in the final gap in the straight leg.If you have other issues with dynamic track I don't have any suggestions.Nick Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Has anybody succeeded in making a wye without dyn. track " I sat and worked on that for a good 10-12 hours last nite, sniper, but I'll be damned if I could ever get it to join up on the last corner.I started up at the north end with the y pnt and worked my way down on both sides together.I got the west end to hook up correctly, but the east side just wouldn't quite line up... Jan-13-02, 04:38 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Has anybody succeeded in making a wye without dyn. track " It's hardly noticeable unless you lay a whole line of them side by side, but the endpnt left and right sections are slightly different lengths or curvatures, so it makes a difference which ones you use and where. that's how I find these things out, if the lineup don't work with an endpntright piece, try an endpntleft instead, and it hits in a slightly different location. Also, if one of the sctions like the single 7 meter straight attached to the curve of each 10d right and left switches is missing or in a different place, it will look like it should work but won't. There are other ways to do it, I saw a thread somewhere else where a guy did it with different track pieces, but you do a lot of laying track and deleting and trying something different before you find a combination that works. Here's a tutorial on dynamic track, making a wye for the illustration;http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID6/1877.html
Believe me, once you get the hang of dynamic track, it makes lineup a whole lot easier. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-14-02, 09:06 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Has anybody succeeded in making a wye without dyn. track " Hi,
I created a WYE on my route and found out that the A1tYpoint10dmnl switch has some sort of bug in it. In fact, that switch completely messed up my route and all my backups. It took me forever to figure out that it was that switch that was causing all the problems. I could not even select the switch to delete it without locking up. I had to rebuild my track database to be able to select the switch to remove it. I had another non-WYE area where I had 3 Ypoint switches in a row, I had to rebuild track database once for every switch I tried to select. I think, however, if you use the Ypoint switch in areas without a lot of complicated track configurations, that it will work ok, the East Metro route at the Oil City refinery is an example of a Ypoint that appears to work OK. Of course, there's always the possibility that I'm the only one having problems with the Ypoint switch....As far as the WYE, I was able to make the WYE without dynamic track only by using the Ypoint switch on one of the legs. Making a WYE without the Ypoint however, requires dynamic track. The prototype WYE I modelled doesn't use a Ypoint anyway, and has double track along one of the 3 sides of the WYE, so dynamic track was a must for my WYE.If using dynamic track bothers you, I recommend getting the "Step By Step Guide to Route Building" tutorial at Abacus, and checking out the section that has the conversion of degrees (which is what curved track and switches use in MSTS) to radians (which is what dynamic track uses). Once you know that to achieve a 10 degree curve with dynamic track you set the radians to 0.175, then using dynamic track is a breeze. I now use dynamic track liberally on my route now that I know how to set the radians to achieve a desired curve. It makes joining the dynamic track a breeze.Hope this helps,Jeff "WYE me?" Leslie
