Jan-11-02, 04:19 PM (EST) "IC route users, my apology" For those of you that have had trouble in the past with understanding my readme's or with the new version 1a this week, please accept my apology. Bill's installer that replaced the Jim Stevens process made things work for many. But there are a few that still can't get it to work and it's my fault.Bill said in an email to me today, Dave, why didn't you......(I've left out the question). My answer was, I never thought of that. So what I've done is that and I'm going to upload a version 1b that I think anyone will be able to make work (fingers crossed) I unzipped 1a to a work area doing all the uzips that I expected you all to do. I then rezipped it up and it is now just one zip with folders used! Yes 1 step to unzip and 1 step to run Bills installer and you are done!Here is what is changed prior to zipping up;
1. Fixed the trk file missing the quotes that causes a failed header initialization error. (this was fixed in version .2)
2. All files now have the correct folders assigned so you don't have internal zips.So if you can't get 1a to work, then wait for 1b. You will still want to get version .2 through .6 when they get up in the next day or so. Those updates give you more scenery and track.Thanks for your patience in this.David Klemm

Jan-12-02, 10:50 AM (EST) 1. "RE: IC route users, my apology" Hi david,I'm about to release my first route (see route section). Do you have any tips for me how to do it right? Especially: how to minimize the download-data and all about easy-to-use installers.Thanx for your help!Woelferl Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-12-02, 12:27 PM (EST) 2. "RE: IC route users, my apology" woelferl, I replied to you in that thread, but it just occured to me that if you're using ALL_OBJECTS instaed of one of the other ref files you may need the beta package, So I'll post the link in there.Dave, we're giving this stuff away for free, don't you think you're setting a bad example with all these apologies?Here's the official freeware developer's apology;
"I hereby apoligise for my complete lack of apologies, because I figured if I gave it to you for nothing and you couldn't get it to work, that's your tough luck. Crying towels available for a nominal extra charge."Use that on all form letters. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-12-02, 06:29 PM (EST) 3. "RE: IC route users, my apology" I've got some ideas that I think all the route users use. One, delete out of the zip any .bk files as they are backups and not needed. As for you tiles, delete out of the zip and that end in e or n. They are terrain buffers that MSTS will generate if they don't exist. This saves a lot of space.What ref file are you using? This will decide some solutions on the sound, shape, terrtex and textures folders.David Klemm

Jan-14-02, 03:07 AM (EST) 5. "RE: IC route users, my apology" Hi David,to answer your question: i use the ref of marias-pass. As i wanted to use also some other american and jap. stuff i imported tha necessary shapes and textures and kind of modified the .ref.
I also imported som useful stuff like the watertower etc.I threw out all *bk, *e.raw, *n.raw. I also deleted all sound and terrtex. It's still 89 MB big!! (tooooo much).Now i'm quite uncertain about deleting the .env files and the shapes.What i planned next was: to look inside the shapes and delete all the "custom" .ace's that everybody can import back from the USA1 /-2 and JAPAN- folders.Good plan??Better suggestions??Woelferl Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
