Jan-11-02, 09:50 AM (EST) "30th Street Station Yard Screenshots" I have been working on extending the Northeast Corridor past 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. I hope to upload my first release, which will extend the Northeast Corridor and the main line to Harrisburg (Old Reading I think) to the Broad Street and Villanova University Stations including the switching yard at 30th Street Station that Microsoft left out. I have most of my trackwork done for the first release and at this point I mainly have some scenery items to add such as the Schuylkill River and Schuylkill Expressway. I hope to have these added shortly and have my initial release uploaded shortly. Until then, here are some screenshots of the new 30th Street Station switching yard in Philadelphia and the main line tracks heading into the station from the north and the west up around the Falls Point Bridge. I hope you like these screenshots, they should give the people who like to create switching activities something to look forward to.1) Looking south toward the 30th Street Terminal in Philadelphia from the middle of the switching yard.
2) Looking south along the main line just above the yard area.
3) Further up the main line looking south.
4) Looking north towards the Falls Point Bridge next to where the Philadelphia Zoo will be on the right.
5) Looking north where the two main lines join into one.
6) Another shot of the yard looking south toward the station terminal.
7) Another shot of the main line heading into the yard looking south.
8) Some of the sidings in the 30th Street Station yard. 19 tracks run through the yard including the main line going through the station. Lots of switching fun.
9) Another shot of the sidings in the switching yard.
10) My Amtrak F-45's parked on a siding looking north giving a good view of the track work in the yard of 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.
Well, I hope that these screenshots get your interest out there in the Train Simulator community. I look forward to hearing your response to my work and your comments. I also hope you like what you see so far Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-11-02, 07:01 PM (EST) 2. "RE: 30th Street Station Yard Screenshots" This looks like it will turn into a much needed add-on for the NEC! I'm looking forward to it!As for compatability with NEC v2, AFAIK the trackwork in NEC2 is identical to that in v1, so hopefully they should be compatible unless there are some issues with the scenery. I've got my fingers crossed!

Jan-11-02, 10:31 PM (EST) 3. "RE: 30th Street Station Yard Screenshots" gxmYou have quite a project going there! Good luck with it.
BTW, if you are going to Harrisburg from Philly you will be doing the original mainline of the Pennsylvania Railroad not the Reading. The PRR went direct to H'burg via Paoli and Lancaster, the Reading went by way of Reading, PA along the Schuykill River.Bob S Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-12-02, 12:55 PM (EST) 4. "RE: 30th Street Station Yard Screenshots" LAST EDITED ON Jan-12-02 AT 01:00 PM (EST)I have not changed any track in the original route and have only changed scenery right around 30th Street Station and north of it where it conflicted with other major scenery items that I had to place in the scenery such as the Schuylkill River and the Schuylkill Expressway. I am basing the route on the original Northeast Corridor that came with the game because everybody has that version of the route and as such should not have any problems using my extension where as not everyone may have the NEC version 2 that is out. As long as that route doesn't make changes to the track or scenery at 30th Street Station or north of it though, I don't see why there would be a problem since almost all of the changes I have made are from the station itself north. Right now I am planning on extending the main line to Harrisburg only to the Villanova University station and mainly extending the Northeast Corridor. The Northeast Corridor alone is going to be a big enough project right now by itself. If I get other people on here interested in helping I then may decide to go to Harrisburg as well. But right now it's just the NEC up to NYC hopefully eventually. One thing I could use help with now is if anyone knows if there are any animal sounds to be used as sound objects in Train-Simulator, Lions, Tigers, Elephants, etc. Right now I am doing the Philadelphia Zoo which is right next to the NEC tracks just before the Falls Point Bridge. It would be cool to hear animals in it if it's possible at all. Thanks for your help. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-12-02, 05:17 PM (EST) 6. "RE: 30th Street Station Yard Screenshots" LAST EDITED ON Jan-12-02 AT 05:17 PM (EST)There is going to be a problem using this NEC extension north from Philly. The .TDB file (track database) is going to be the new extension and the original, effectivly wiping out the nice new signaling Bill Knowles did.
The only thing the developer could do is release two versions, one for the original and one for the NECV2.

Jan-14-02, 09:55 AM (EST) 9. "RE: 30th Street Station Yard Screenshots" Ok, I am sorry to hear that it won't be compatible with the NEC version 2 route I still think going with the original route was the better way to go though. Everyone has the original route and can therefore use my extension if the wanted to. Not everyone has the NEC version 2 route. One thought though. What if you combined the two routes files, ignored the track database file, then went into the route editor and told it to rebuild the track database? Would that work? Motley24Crue2, I will try and send you the files either tonight or tomorrow so you can take a look at them. Also let me know if you are interested in building your subway route as part of my project, it would be cool to have your SEPTA line as part of the Philadelphia area I am building with the NEC project. Especially since you're route goes into the 30th Street Station as well. It would also be great if you are interested in helping me with this project. Thanks for your feedback Motley24Crue2 and I will get these files to you as soon as I can so you can check out what I have done so far and give me feedback. Thanks for your help. Jan-15-02, 11:38 AM (EST) 10. "RE: 30th Street Station Yard Screenshots" Motley24Crue2, I tried to email it to you. Unfortunately my email provider won't allow me to upload attachments that big. Is there any way I can send it to you through FTP or something? Let me know if there is another way to get it to you. If not I hope to have it uploaded soon anyway. Sorry, and thanks for your support. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
