Jan-09-02, 09:47 PM (EST) "Fix for mile 26.2 crashes on Tokyo-Hakone" I ran a dash9 consist on Tokyo-Hakone and it always derails at mile 26.2 by the bridge, on the curve. If I run the Japanese 2000 through I can see it violently attacked by the same invisible forces, but it survives. Guess they built it to take on Godzilla!I deleted the sound, milepost, catenary bridges, just leaving the signal triggers. I don't want to touch those, it's the first time I've used the route editor just about.Anyone know what to do there? It's neat to run a diesel through, though the 2000 is so nice too.

Remember you're running a mainline deisel freight engine through what is essentially a subway route as far as the curves go. Ever ride the NY or Boston subways and hear them squealing in protest around every corner they take? A regular train (if it fit on the rails in the first place ) would fly off the slightest curves of just about all subway lines.-Andy

Jan-10-02, 07:28 AM (EST) 2. "RE: Fix for mile 26.2 crashes on Tokyo-Hakone" When the NYCTA IRT "5" trains "turn around" on the inner loop at South Ferry station, they squeal so loud that some people cover their ears as they are waiting for the "1/9" trains or getting on or off the "1/9" trains. When the terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center, they destroyed the Cortlandt Street station so "1/9" service between South Ferry and Chambers Streets has to be suspended until NYC finishes cleaning up the mess and starts rebuilding the area. PATH service to WTC is also suspended. "E" trains "terminate" at Canal Street instead of at WTC station but after NYCTA order the people off the "E" trains at Canal Street, the trains leave the station and reverse directions at WTC. "N/R" trains skip Cortlandt Street. Jeffrey. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

It's totally wide radius, and the dash 9 made it through the preceding 26.2 miles with no problems.
I hope that the dash9 wouldn't be avilable for the run if it wasn't supposed to make it.

Jan-10-02, 08:50 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Fix for mile 26.2 crashes on Tokyo-Hakone" I remember that point, when I first started playing with the route editor I was thinking about converting that route to a city freight route, and ran across the same odd derailment point. Might be fixable now that I know more about it, rebuilding the TDB for the route could possible fix it. Here's what I think you're talking about;Message Areas - "Fix for mile 26.2 crashes on Tokyo-Hakone" – image 1
Note the two pieces of dynamic track, I suspect these, or the "adjacent track pieces not loaded", are the problem. Must be something out of sync there, because there's no obvious bad track join when you look close at it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

The title or label or whatever it's called is truncated by windows when it's not the currently selected one, here's what the whole icon looks like:Message Areas - "Fix for mile 26.2 crashes on Tokyo-Hakone" – image 2
I figure that's fair warning.Well, there's bad news and bad news, rebuilding the TDB fixes the problem without having to relay the track, but unfortunately wrecks all the default activities that come with the route. Something about an "out of date" error, there's a way to fix that afterwards, but I forget what it is. I think you have to open each affected activity in the activity editor and save the activity to update it, I haven't fooled around with that yet. I did create a test activity starting at MP27 with the 2XDash 9 and 49 mixed consist, downhill and around the curve at 40 without a hiccup. There are bumps in other places mind you, caused by the fact that doubletracked curve sections were designed to lay flat, and connecting them on a grade causes one side of each end to be higher than the other, resulting in vertical misalignment of one or the other of the tracks. These don't cause derailments of themselves, but they are annoying. I've been experimenting on my own route with spacing out doubletracked curves on grades with two singletrack 10 meter straight sections between each, with the second single 10 meter rotated to a different elevation to compensate. Works, but tedious, and don't help with curved doubletrack tunnels on grades, gotta figure out something else for those.
There I go rambling again, where was I? Oh, yeah. In Tokyo. I don't even remember how I got here, musta been a hell of a party. Did I get divorced again? Anybody looking for an urban freight route, take a look at the Hoboken Shore, it needs a few patches to work in snow, but it's unbelievably densely packed city industrial switching superdetailed... Sorry. Now you know what all the delay is on PO&N5, I spend more time playing with enocell's route than I do working on my own.
And I got sidetracked again. Anybody want to try the fix, first step is to open Japan1 in explorer, copy the OdakyuSE.tdb and OdakyuSE.rdb files to a backup folder, and delete those two files from Japan1. Copy \Activities, \Paths, \Service, and \Traffic to a backup folder.
Open the route editor, select Tokyo-Hakone, click on the advanced button, check the box for "rebuild track database", then click OK.Message Areas - "Fix for mile 26.2 crashes on Tokyo-Hakone" – image 3
This will fix the bad track pieces adjacent to the dynamic track sections.
Then fix the activities, or delete them all and make new ones.
Last, when all that completely screws up Tokyo like a visit from Godzilla, paste all the files and folders you made copies of back into the route to fix it. Try again until screamingly insane.
Repeat after me: "It's only a game." "It's only a game." "It's only a game." "It's only a game." "It's only a game." "It's only a game." "It's only a game." "It's only a game."Good luck, you'll need it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Fix for mile 26.2 crashes on Tokyo-Hakone" LAST EDITED ON Jan-11-02 AT 11:45 AM (EST)Almost forgot, Copying and pasting all the activity files in and out might work too, I think what the activity is checking for is the time/date stamp on the TDB file being a later version than the ACT files.
