Jan-01-02, 07:03 PM (EST) "Camas Prairie Rail Road - Shortline On Stilts" Has/Is ANYONE at all started/will start/in the middle of making this wonderful piece of Idaho's history? CPRR is abandoning the 70+ mile line from Spalding, ID to Grangeville, ID, and it would be a terrible shame if it were to disappear altogether. As a train fan of many years (I was but a wee tyke when I got bit by the bug), I used to live on the main line to Grangeville. I can recall seeing the daily trains pass by my house twice (one going to Grangeville, the other going back to Lewiston). I live very close to the CPRR's operations office and yard, so I can venture forth and gather information for some intrepid, enthusiastic (and more computer power than I have), person willing to undertake or go in together on this project. I can try to get route maps, geographical data, signage, engine data (well, they have 6, I think, GP38s and one SW1200 switcher, but I can verify that) etc., from the operations office. I'd also like to make up or have some activities made (Logging Run to Pierce, ID, Grain Haul to Grangeville, Spot Refrigerated Units at Twin City Foods, etc.)Anyone interested? E-mail me and we'll get this project running (no pun intended)Doug (kb7rky@yahoo.com) Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: Camas Prairie Rail Road - Shortline On Stilts" Hey, someone who who knows what PFI REALLY stands for We could ship a big jar of "the smell" to everyone who wants it for a real world experience The Dinner Train is still going...just not very often (or as often as the people running it want). That would be easy to reproduce...two (maybe three...I can check, as it's parked at the siding just half a block from where I work) dining cars, a small boxcar, and your choice of engine from the stock files in MSTS.Doug (kb7rky@yahoo.com)= Do Not Meddle In The Affairs Of Dragons, For You Are Crunchy And Good With Ketchup = Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-02-02, 00:47 AM (EST) 3. "RE: Camas Prairie Rail Road - Shortline On Stilts" Hey John:The Dinner Train consists of four cars total: three dining cars and one modified boxcar (I think it's a power unit for the diners), and the engine. I'll get pix of the cars (and maybe a CPRR engine) if anyone wants to try and re-skin some diners and/or power units and engine. They might even use the switcher to pull the cars. My confuser lacks suitable storage capacity (only 4 GB...Staples has a special on 80 GB hard drives, but that's gonna have to wait until next payday). It just occurred to me... the CPRR used to be owned by Union Pacific years ago until they became Camas Prairie RailNet.Ah, what the heck...I claim artistic license!Doug (kb7rky@yahoo.com)= Do Not Meddle In The Affairs Of Dragons, For You Are Crunchy And Good With Ketchup = Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-02-02, 01:45 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Camas Prairie Rail Road - Shortline On Stilts" Camas Prairie was jointly owned by UP and BN (NP before BN) before it was sold to Railnet here a few years ago. The line is now known as Camas Prairie Railnet. But you can kiss all the lines east of Lewistown goodbye. Instead growing traffic like most shortlines, Railnet has done a good job of shrinking it. They even pissed off their largest customer, Potlach, and the log trains off the Headquaters line are no more. BTW, the dinner train called it quits recently too. Ted Curphey

"RE: Camas Prairie Rail Road - Shortline On Stilts" Well, that's just terrible But, hey, we can keep it running on our sims now, can't we?And, I figured out how we can re-create the wonderful "aroma" of Potlatch...just have a rotten egg near the computer I'll be getting some pix of the newest RailNet engines in the next few weeks, if anyone wants to make up some skins for the GP-38s (I think the 6 engines CPRNet are GP-38s, and the switcher might be an SW-1200 or 1500). I recall the UP owning CPRR in my childhood (no mistaking those bright yellow engines!), but I'll take your word for it, Ted.Thanks for the info...that'll help out immenselyDoug Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-04-02, 07:52 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Camas Prairie Rail Road - Shortline On Stilts" Wow! That egg stinks, and gets worse by the day.Well your both right, the CPRR was jointly owned, and in addition to UP Geep's, BN threw in some GP9's and a SW or two. The Camas Prarie book by Hal Riegger is a good source of information, why there is even a photo of a NP RDC!Regarding the Dinner Train, I thought it was odd that I couldn't find a schedule or anything, only a phone number when I was there recently. I understood from the article in Trains, that that headquarter branch was too expensive to maintain, and they had lost too much business.Of course another Route I would like to see is the McCloud River! Chip from dekoSoft is working on a SD38-2, which would mighty fine as MCRR #39, might push me into learning how to build a route.John Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-04-02, 09:34 PM (EST) 7. "RE: Camas Prairie Rail Road - Shortline On Stilts" I just happened to pay a visit to the CPRR yard today to shoot some pix of the engines and get some route information for the line. The gentleman who helped me gave me a push in the right direction, and suggested I read "Trains" from the early 80s for more info. It's ironic that you should mention that book...he mentioned it, as well!I also found out CPRR doesn't operate GP-38s as I thought, but GE-type engines (the exact type I don't know...they look like SD-40s or 60s) and a small switcher (don't know that type either, but will check further). My digital camera wasn't working properly today, but I did manage to get three pretty good pix of Engines 2 and 4. I'll be going out there again next week and see if I can get some more info on the engines and switcher. I'm sure the models are available to download here...it's just a matter of re-skinning them.Doug Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
