Dec-19-01, 00:48 AM (EST) 1. "RE: PLEASE I NEED HELP :(" water: real simple, use the 2nd row, 2nd button from the left on the tool bar and you'll get a grid that overlays over the terrain. You'll see a menu appear. One of the options is toggle water on.That's pretty oversimplified. The best way to get answers to your question is seek out the free tutorials available on route building (not many) or check outwww.trainsimulatorworld.com for Mike Vone's Route Building Guide. It's $15 I believe.Mountains: 2nd row, last button to the right will get you a circle cursor. Drag this circle on the terrain and it will create a rectangle. Use you arrow keys to bring the mountain up or down (good for making rivers).Once again Mike Vone's guide will give you a much more detailed explanation.Another way to make mountains is to import DEM data. If you're doing a USA route then try my tutorial $5 at
www.edmfamily.com/msts/index.htmOr... if you are doing a non-US route, this gets more tricky. DEM data outside the US I keep hearing is not up to par. There's a tool TSTF that will allow you to trace contours from off a scanned image. This file is available here at train-sim.com in the uploads section.Another option you have is to use the Search function for the forum. Mind you, there's over 6000 posts to search from so it could take a little bit.Hope this helps.Rich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"RE: PLEASE I NEED HELP :(" One quick way to make hills is to lay a piece of track and use the "move" function to elevate it to the desired height, set the required slope angle and conform it. Voila! Instant mountain. That's the technique I'm using for many of the hils on my Far North route. As Rich rightly points out there's no DEM data (well only very expensive data) for the UK so it all has to be done by eyeball.A 2 degree angle (the minimum route editor supports) will make a nice "rolling hill", increasing the angle will make the slope steeper. If you want to be accurate, divide the vertical displacement by the distance over ground, take the inverse tangent and that's the angle you need. What else. Oh yes, make sure the maximum terrain height in each of the 2km squares (blue) is sufficiently high to accommodate your hill or it will look like a piece of cheese with a slice out of it. Sometimes it does that anyway. Sometimes you may get a rift or crevasse appear where the blue lines are. This can be got rid of by highlighting with the terrain tool and use the flatten command. Finally before doing anything substantial with terrain, save your work to clear the memory buffer, then again straight after if you're happy with the results.
