Dec-18-01, 06:24 PM (EST) "HEY Sniper. Got a solution to your switching problem." Yup thats right. I think I figured out a way for you to use manual switches with AI traffic. ok we all know you can overlap tracks right? my idea is for you to try and place an auto switch under a manual one. so the switch will be thrown for the AI and you can throw the switch yourself too. I haven't tested this as it just came to me and I'm still working on the coupler so I just thought I'd let you know it before I forget it. Its worth a shot no? at lest if it works you won't have to go nuts with the AI trying to make those great open ended activities which we need more of btw. well time to get back to the coupler. I'll check back here in a bit. Craig Shortino Building a better coupler to make this "as real as it gets".

However, if you manually throw a switch that the AI was going to control, you will probably have problems.I doubt you can put one switch on top of another, but even if you could, why would you want to? Dec-20-01, 05:20 AM (EST) 2. "RE: HEY Sniper. Got a solution to your switching problem." Hi bobs. Well you can use manual switchs with the AI but they are not thrown for them. in other words if you go over a switch going the opposite way that an AI train does it will not be thrown for the AI and you will get stuck behind it when you return. The reason for putting one ontop of the other is so the switch is thrown and you can throw it. see what I mean? Craig Shortino Built a better coupler to make this "as real as it gets". Dec-20-01, 08:28 AM (EST) 3. "RE: HEY Sniper. Got a solution to your switching problem." Craig,
Can you post a pic of what two switches look like on top of each other in various setting combinations? When I tested it out it theoretically could work but I couldn't get past how bad it looks long enough to build an activity around it. The two track sections over each other really look funny when the switch is moving plus it seems like it would be a 50/50 toss up as to which branch of the switch trains get sent to depending on which track section the sim 50/50 decides to put the train on. Maybe it's just me and you got better visual results...Ah well, I like automatic switches for activities anyhow. Makes it more like there's a real dispatcher somewhere steering you about. -Andy

Dec-20-01, 06:02 PM (EST) 4. "RE: HEY Sniper. Got a solution to your switching problem." Hi. I can post a pic but I don't know if it will upload. I only have MS Paint and I can only get it down to 750kb and thats after shrinking it. If there is a way I can post a pic let me know how and I will. the reason for this idea is because sniper likes to make the open ended activities and the auto switches limit your open ended abilities when you want to add AI traffic. it shouldn't look funny as one goes directly over the other. you should just see one switch and the switch handle on the side for the manual switch.

Dec-20-01, 10:25 PM (EST) 6. "RE: HEY Sniper. Got a solution to your switching problem." Hi Andy. See I told ya it would work. with looks anyway. I haven't tested it yet as I am still working on the coupler and I'm also doing a repaint of the pioneer coaches and caboose in UP yellow and gray for the new 4-4-0. I have built the switches like I said I just haven't tested them yet as my plate is full. I just put out my ideas because as soon as I think of something new I forget the other thing I was thinking before. so I post it then let someone who knows more about it then me try it. It should work seeing as how we have the narrow gauge tracks now and they have 3 rails on them. I think. I saw a pic a while back but it may have just been a track for something else. anyway what I'm getting at is that if you can have a track with 3 rails and not confuse the sim at a switch as to what track the wheels should be on then there should be no problem with the overlapping switch right? I'll test it sometime tonight. I'll put up my results in here then. Craig Shortino Built a better coupler to make this "as real as it gets".
