Dec-17-01, 11:19 PM (EST) "Switch with a mind of it's own" In playing around with making a route I've come to a point where a wye is needed. Got the wye built, but I've come across something strange (to me, at least). One of the switches on the wye can be seen animating slowly while in the Route Editor. The animation box is unchecked for this particular track piece. when checked, the animation is about 50 times faster. Unchecked, you can watch the handle slowly creep back and forth, and the tracks shift from one path to the other. The other switches at the opposite ends of the east and west legs of the wye sit there inanimate, as do other switches located at other points in the route. All the switches are manual, and all have the same properties. Just the one wants to come to life. Worst of all, the sim crashes when approaching the 'moving' switch. If I remove this switch, I can run the sim without errors. The track piece is A1tPnt10dRgtMnl. I'm using the same piece at the west leg of the wye, and a lefty at the east end. The route is in it's VERY early stages, with no siding or platform names, signals, or mileposts yet. Any insights are appreciated!

As it turns out, I had a forest area on either side of the tracks. Not real close, but there nonetheless. Just for the heck of it I removed the forest areas on either side of the switch in question and lo and behold the ghost switch stopped being ghostly. And better still, no more crashing sim when nearing that switch. I've added the forest areas back in, in approximately the same locations, and no strangeness to report at all. Perhaps I inadvertantly used the haunted forest first time around... beats me! At any rate, seems all is again well.
Thanks again and happy holidays! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
