Dec-17-01, 07:49 PM (EST) "Switch Lamp: Revisited" I've uploaded the switch lamp file to the forum file area. Until I can find some help with the script, it will have to be used in a route that has signals in it. I've devised a crude way to get around it until then, if you don't have a signaled route. There's an "End of Track" marker included in the file that needs to be placed at the beginning of the route that leads to the switch stands facing the traffic. Needs to be done in both directions. It sort of tricks the sim into thinking there's signals. The marker can also be used at the end of buffer tracks. Here's a graphic showing how to install and link:

"RE: Switch Lamp: Revisited" LAST EDITED ON Dec-18-01 AT 01:42 PM (EST)Hi,That crude way, you call it, is the same way as Hagen Knop has done it with the German switch stands. He said to him it appears as a bug in MSTS. But you need a signal pointing in the same direction as the switch stand between the switch stand and the end of the track.
For some tracks I used his end of track sign and for others a small German signal and buried it.Dick van den Hoven Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-18-01, 02:06 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Switch Lamp: Revisited" Dick,
I think I've overcome this problem without having to use the so called end of track marker. With some changes in the script, I can create a test route with any number of switches, add the switch indicators and eveything runs w/o the markers on the lead tracks.
The only problem now, if the indicators are placed on a route between two signals, they seem to count as blocks and the signals will respond as if the indicators are signals. I thought using "DECO" or "INFO" they wouldn't be counted as blocks. Apparently not so. All these two terms do is tell the sim not to penalize you if you go through a red sign or exceed a speed setting.

Dec-18-01, 11:31 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Switch Lamp: Revisited" Hank,I ran across your name in an Erie or EL discussion group while doing a serach for mp54 MUs. Ever have any luck with draings or diagrams. I've made a somewhat crude model with
TS modeler. I still looking more accurate diagrams.
Oct. '69 Model Railroader is listed somewhere as a reference but I have not seen it yet. Curious to know if you have any ideas.
TIA,
Jim

Dec-20-01, 09:49 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Switch Lamp: Revisited" Hank,I've been using your SL signals, v. 2.2. I tried adding these switch indicators to the signal files, but I keep geeting errors. Can you post new SL signal files with these incorporated or isolate only the parts that needed to be added so I can do it myself? Any help is greatly appreciated.Bill Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-22-01, 01:58 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Switch Lamp: Revisited" HiMy West end of Whitefish yard (including the Service facility)
now has your switch lamps.I did discover the triangular marker HAS to be on the single
track BEFORE the red switch vertical line or funny things can
happen.I also positioned the actual lamp even with the red line to give
me a stopping marker when switching. It's not quite prototypical
but...One minor nitpick. They apppear to be overscale - perhaps 50%
too large. Maybe if you do a version 2...ALso, if you do a Version 2, would it be possible to add a small
numeric sign (like a Speed) where the track number could be
entered? (If you like challenges)
Thank you for your work and have a Merry ChristmasGaryG
